Raise service levels, reduce management costs

img src="/alphaserver/images/chicklet_announce_gx.jpg" alt="Two men in front of GS series systems" width="148" height="110" align="right">With the enhanced Compaq Tru64 UNIX operating system and 1 GHz 64-bit processor AlphaServer GS Series models, you can give your IT organization the tools it needs to improve user response times and focus resources on business-critical applications, while you concentrate on business opportunities. Raise service levels for your users, while reducing the cost and complexity of managing your system resources.

Tru64 UNIX V5.1A

Increase productivity by managing system resources dynamically
Compaq Tru64 UNIX V5.1A sets itself apart from other UNIX systems by incorporating dynamic resource management technology from Aurema.

  • Add and replace processors in AlphaServer GS Series systems without interrupting applications.
  • Dynamically monitor and assign processor and memory resources where and when they are most needed.

Mix processor speeds within a single system or partition
This revolutionary feature let you use mixed-speed processors in the same AlphaServer GS Series system or even in the same hardware partition! You can't do this with Sun, IBM, or HP systems. Imagine the flexibility to upgrade all or part of a system. And with the resource management capabilities of Tru64 UNIX, you can target system resources and computing power where they are most needed.

LAN-based cluster interconnects mean lower entry costs
Tru64 UNIX now supports LAN-based interconnects, giving you more flexibility in cluster configurations. Combined with new resource management features, the gains are even more dramatic. You can confidently use all cluster resources by automatically load balancing resources across all clustered systems.

Extended Internet capabilites
Internet Express (formerly Open Source Internet Solutions - OSIS) provides open source and commercial software to solve Internet infrastructure problems. For faster and easier Internet directory and web server implementation, iPlanet Directory Server with support for 200,000 users, and iPlanet Enterprise Server, and Compaq Secure Web Server (based on Apache Web Server) are now bundled with Tru64 UNIX on AlphaServer systems.

Enhanced AlphaServer systems

Compaq has completed the Alpha EV68 processor upgrades across the AlphaServer line with the enhanced AlphaServer GS and DS Series systems, supporting Tru64 UNIX and OpenVMS.

AlphaServer GS Series:
superior enterprise systems that maximize business value
To grow your business and exploit new opportunities, you must arm your IT team with the most effective tools to manage the increased demand.

  • 1 GHz Alpha processor and 8 MB cache
  • Industry-leading TPC-C performance
  • Dynamic hardware partitions, supporting mixed-speed CPUs in the same partition
    industry first!
  • Power your growth - The new 1 GHz Alpha processor gives you an up to 45% increase in data processing power. Combine this with the flexibility of Compaq's Capacity on Demand program to add power when you need it.
  • 24 x 7 availability - Now you can add and replace processors without bringing your systems down. And Compaq Global Services can tailor high availability services to meet your specific demands. We offer 99.999% availability for AlphaServer GS Series systems.
  • On-line transaction processing - the AlphaServer GS320 1 GHz system delivers the best single system performance with a total system throughput of 230,533 tpmC at $44.62/tpmC -- better than the Sun Enterprise 10000, the IBM pSeries 680 and the HP Superdome. For the iBaan ERP application suite, the new AlphaServer GS320 1 GHz system delivered the best performance for the latest version of Baan applications and the Oracle database.

AlphaServer DS Series: space-saving speed
The AlphaServer DS Series gives you supercomputing power in a compact package. That power just grew a little more serious with the introduction of the AlphaServer DS20E 833 MHz system. The dual-processor version delivers the power of many four-processor competitors.

» AlphaServer DS20E
    833 MHz Alpha processor
    Backplane RAID support
    Dual channel Ultra3 SCSI adapter
» AlphaServer DS10
New front access storage option for better data center management

No wonder that the new AlphaServer DS20E tops the SPECfp2000 benchmark results. It's the perfect system for dedicated application environments, whether you use Compaq Tru64 UNIX, Compaq OpenVMS, or Linux.

Oracle9i Real Application Clusters certified configurations:
new lower-cost entry and faster implementation

Compaq introduces a new lower-cost AlphaServer Tru64 UNIX ES40 certified configuration for Oracle9i Real Application Clusters, tested and staged by Oracle and Compaq engineers. Also available is an industry-unique 9 Days program providing customers with a commitment to a running Oracle9i Real Application Clusters configuration on Tru64 UNIX AlphaServer systems within nine days of receiving their order.
