| ProLiant Cluster HA/F500 for MA8000/EMA12000,
EMA16000 is HP's high-end Windows based cluster solution that provides the
highest levels of availability in a No-Single-Points-of-Failure or disaster
tolerant cluster environment. The solution is ideal for customers' business-critical
applications and data access requirements. The ProLiant Cluster HA/F500 for MA8000/EMA12000, EMA16000 can be configured for 8-nodes with Microsoft® Windows Server 2003 in both standard and DT cluster configurations. Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Advanced Server, and NT 4.0 Enterprise Edition can also be configured in 2-node standard and DT clusters. The Disaster Tolerant cluster configurations in Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Advanced Server, and NT4.0 Enterprise Edition Operating Systems provide for storage and node separation, which span distances up to 100Km through the use of ATM or VLWL GBIC's and up to 10Km using LWL GBIC's. The use associated with the different kits is described in the Overview. |

| Introduction |
| The ProLiant Cluster HA/F500 for MA8000/EMA12000, EMA16000
is a cluster platform comprised of ProLiant servers, HP StorageWork storage,
fibre channel interconnects, and HP software, running on a Microsoft Windows
operating system. This solution offers high availability through the use
of redundant hardware, software, and manageability tools found in the servers
and storage subsystem. This platform features the highest level of availability,
and can be configured to provide an environment with No-Single-Points-of-Failure,
or a disaster tolerant environment based on configuration. The cluster kits support a variety of configurations, including single path, dual path, and disaster tolerant configurations with a separation of up to 100 Km between nodes. The Enhanced Cluster Kit provides a complete set of documentation, a crossover cable, multi-path and intelligent manageability software necessary to configure a no-single-point-of-failure cluster solution. The Enhanced DT Cluster Kit provides additional documentation and software that has been tested and certified to work in the disaster tolerant configurations shown later in this document. |

The complete solution consists of the following major components:
For supported configurations, refer to the High Availability web site
at http://www.HP.com/highavailability/. |
| NOTE: The maximum
number of nodes which are part of a microsoft cluster attached to one Enterprise
Virtual Array may not exceed a total amount of 32 nodes. For example a configuration
with sixteen 2-node Windows 2000 or a configuration with four 8-node Windows
Server 2003 or a configuration of two 2-node Windows 2000, one 4-node Windows
Server 2003 and two 8-node Windows Server 2003 clusters are valid options. While using Continous Access an Enterprise Virtual Array may not exceed these figures, even after a failover has been performed. Additional standalone servers may be added up to the total published EVA limits. |

Components and Features
|
Highest Level of Availability | The ProLiant Cluster HA/F500 for MA8000/EMA12000, EMA16000 is an integrated solution that consists of high-end, high-density ProLiant servers, or Data Center Servers, HP StorageWorks storage subsystems, and fibre channel server- to-storage-interconnect hardware and software. This unique combination of highly available server and storage hardware, redundant connections, intelligent management and verification software, and failover capabilities of the Microsoft Windows operating system gives the customer the highest levels of data access and applications available in the market today. |
| |
| | |
|
Highly Available Storage | The RA8000/ESA12000 or MA8000/EMA12000/EMA16000 storage systems from HP StorageWorks are high-capacity storage subsystems that support single or redundant RAID controllers, which manage up to 72 disks per controller or controller pair. The use of fibre channel switches (FC-Switch), will support four pairs of controllers for a maximum raw storage capacity configuration of 42.05 TB per cluster (4 storage subsystems x 72 drives x 146 GB= 42.05). NOTE that the capacities increase linearly as higher capacity drives are added and supported by the storage subsystems. The dual RAID controllers can also be configured to up to four independent clusters utilizing the switch configuration (FC-Switch). |

|
Based on Industry-Standard Hardware and Software | Because the solution is based on industry-standard hardware and software, it can be implemented at a much lower cost than proprietary RISC/UNIX®-based cluster solutions, without compromising availability. |
| | |
|
Investment Protection | The HA/F500 combines state-of-the art technology and industry standards-based components to provide a long-term business solution. The implementation fibre channel switch (FC-Switch) technology, in conjunction with high speed processing power and system and network interconnects, position the user to take advantage of new software that optimizes the capabilities of the current hardware. The ProLiant Cluster HA/F500 for MA8000/EMA12000, EMA16000 can be configured utilizing many of the standard servers and components that are available today and may already be on-site. This means that customers can achieve high availability systems through clusters that they have assembled using their existing servers and storage components. |
| | |
| Integrated Solutions | ProLiant Clusters integrate hardware and software to provide a total solution for business-critical and mission critical environments. ProLiant Servers, Fibre Channel Switch Interconnect, HP StorageWorks storage Systems, Microsoft and HP Software, and HP integration documentation have all been thoroughly tested in all supported cluster configurations. HP's close relationship with application partners resulted in the development of cluster applications certified for use on HP hardware. HP uses this expertise to help customers design cluster configurations that will meet their business needs and application requirements. |
