| Introduction |
The 3X-DE602-XX, based on the Intel 8255X chip set, provides a family of customer configurable, bridged, multi-port, Fast Ethernet solutions for HP Alpha-based host CPU platforms, with Tru64 UNIX and OpenVMS driver support. The 3X-DE602-BB is a PCI (32-/64-bit, 33-66MHz) dual-port 10/100 UTP (RJ45) Ethernet NIC and base module. This NIC provides optional add-on daughter-card expansion capability that includes:
NOTE: The 3X-DE602-FA and 3X-DE602-TA CANNOT be used stand-alone. |
Ease of Use
| PCI Plug and Play | The 3X-DE602-BB is compliant with the 2.2 PCI specification; this NIC automatically configures its I/O address and interrupts (IRQ) settings for easy installation. |
| Ethernet Auto-negotiation/ configuration |
The 3X-DE602-BB and -TA sense for 10 or 100 Mbps, and half- or full-duplex, and automatically configures to the highest common network connection speed between the NIC and another NIC, or hub, or switch port. (The 3X-DE602-FA is 100 Mbps only.) |

| Diagnostic LED Indicators | For each port, LED Indicators show link integrity, network speed, and network activity at a glance for easy troubleshooting. |
Performance
64-bit PCI Bus |
Efficient data transfer between the network the host CPU is essential for high-performance and low CPU utilization. The 3X-DE602-BB provides a 32-bit/64-bit PCI Universal Connector to work in either 32- or 64-bit PCI bus slots. |
Bus-mastering |
The 3X-DE602-BB uses bus-mastering technology to maximize throughput and optimize host system utilization. |
Security/Reliability
| Network Fault Tolerance (NFT) |
Fail-over to a second Fast Ethernet or other LAN technology port is provided by both Tru64 UNIX and OpenVMS. Under Tru64 UNIX, NETrain or "link-trunking" can be used to manage the failover. Under OpenVMS, fail-over support is provided by both OpenVMS Clusters and DECnet-Plus. Refer to the respective SPDs for further information. |
| Manually Configured Link-Trunking | Tru64 UNIX V5.1a IPK includes support for manually configured 10/100 Ethernet Trunk-Groups. The links in a given trunk group must all be the same speed, and must connect point-to-point between the same two systems {(Tru64 AlphaServer-to-(802.3ad compliant switch), or (Tru64 AlphaServer)-to-(Tru64 AlphaServer)}. |
| Warranty |
Maximum - The remaining warranty of the HP AlphaServer in which it is
installed. |

Host Platform Support and Configuration Rules
| Refer to the Supported Options List (SOL) for your specific AlphaServers or AlphaStations at: http://h18002.www1.hp.com/alphaserver/ to determine support status (hardware configuration rules, minimum supported revisions for operating systems, console firmware, and other related layered products). |
Driver Support and Where to Find It
| Driver Support is provided as part of the host AlphaServer or AlphaStation Operating System Distribution - Tru64 UNIX and OpenVMS. As stated above, refer to the respective host Alpha system Supported Options List to determine support and any required patch kits. |

| Multi-port 10/100 Ethernet | |
| Part Number | Description |
| 3X-DE602-BB |
PCI to Dual-port 10/100 (Twisted-pair
Copper with RJ45s) Ethernet NIC and Base Module Use for all new single and dual-port 10/100 Ethernet applications. |
| 3X-DE602-TA | Dual-port 10/100 (Twisted-pair Copper
with RJ45s) Ethernet add-on daughter card for use with 3X-DE602-BB ONLY This option cannot be used standalone -- it requires the 3X-DE602-BB as a pre-requisite. The 3X-DE602-BB and 3X-DE602-TA combination should be used for all new quad-port applications in place of DE504-BA. |
| 3X-DE602-FA | Single-port 100Mbps (MMF with duplex SC)
Ethernet add-on daughter card for use with 3X-DE602-BB or -AA This option cannot be used standalone -- it requires either the 3X-DE602-BB or -AA as a pre-requisite. |
