Introduction |
| The Compaq PC Card Fingerprint Reader provides a world class authentication and authorization solution for Compaq notebook computers. It simplifies the logon process and reduces the costs associated with managing corporate networks by eliminating the need for user passwords. The Compaq PC Card Fingerprint Reader now supports Novell® NetWare in addition to Microsoft® Windows® Operating Systems. |
|
|
| Performance |
| The one-time registration of an individual's fingerprint
takes only minutes. A tiny camera in the PC card captures an image of the
user's fingerprint. Using complex algorithms, the Compaq PC Card Fingerprint
Reader converts the image into a unique "map" of minutiae points.
This map (not the actual fingerprint) is encrypted and stored within the
computer or network. Once a user's fingerprint is registered, the logon
process is simple and fast. At logon time, the authorized user places a registered finger on the PC Card fingerprint reader. The reader, enabled by integrated Identix BioLogon™ software authenticates the fingerprint map. Computer or network access is instantly achieved. No other passwords are required. With the Compaq PC Card Fingerprint Reader, personal privacy issues are no longer a concerna user fingerprint cannot be recreated. For multifactor authentication, the fingerprint reader can be combined with a Compaq PC Card Smart Card Reader and Microsoft Windows password. |
