The Compaq ProLiant Cluster HA/F200 provides a high level of availability in cluster environments. These kits offer cluster capability on virtually all of Compaq's entry, midrange, and high-end ProLiant servers. Sophisticated Compaq multi-path software manages a redundant path, optical fiber connection from the server to the storage, in a clustered environment or redundant path configuration. This redundant configuration makes the HA/F200 solution a fit for applications and data access protection in a business-critical environment or any customer application with significant uptime requirements. The HA/F200 kit also provides software tools to help you install, configure and manage your cluster.

Introduction

Compaq ProLiant Cluster HA/F200 provides high availability for applications and data in business-critical Microsoft Windows® NT® Server 4.0, Enterprise Edition or Windows 2000 Advanced Server operating system environments clustered configurations.
The Compaq ProLiant Cluster HA/F200 uses Compaq's industry-leading ProLiant servers, Compaq StorageWorks RAID Array 4000 or 4100 (RA4000/4100), Ethernet server to server interconnect and Compaq's leading installation and systems management utilities.
The Compaq ProLiant Cluster HA/F200 uses the industry-standard Microsoft cluster software included in Microsoft NT Server 4.0 Enterprise Edition and Windows 2000 Advanced Server operating system for cluster operation and failover management. The addition of intelligent cluster management and improved systems management software, included in the HA/F200 kit, makes this solution a must for consideration in many Windows NT or Windows 2000 environments.
Compaq provides a cluster kit containing components required to connect and manage two Compaq ProLiant servers and the StorageWorks RAID Array 4000/4100 together in a cluster. Connection of multiple clusters with different operating systems on the same SAN in redundant configurations is also supported. The HA/F200 cluster kit contains multi-path software, Web-based cluster administration software, cluster configuration verification software, and an interconnect cable. Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0, Enterprise Edition or Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server operating systems need to be purchased separately from your local Microsoft provider.
The Compaq Cluster HA/F200 kit delivers a high level of availability in cluster by providing multi-path connections. Compaq Redundancy Manager or Compaq SANworks Secure Path software, included in the kit, manages a redundant fibre channel infrastructure (two paths through the fibre channel hub , FC-AL switch, or fabric switch) that connects dual host adapters in the servers to one or more RA4000/4100 storage subsystems, each with dual RAID controllers.

Standard Features

Maximum Availability, Minimum Cost

Because Compaq ProLiant Clusters are built from industry-standard components, Compaq delivers high levels of application availability at a much lower cost than traditional, proprietary cluster solutions. The Compaq ProLiant Cluster HA/F200 uses Compaq industry-leading ProLiant servers, the fast and reliable Compaq StorageWorks RAID Array 4000/4100 (RA4000/4100) and cluster node interconnect options, Ethernet. The HA/F200's dual path configuration will provide another level of availability above the previously released HA/F100 cluster. The HA/F100 will continue to be offered as a fibre channel entry-level solution for customers interested in a higher level of availability than single server environments provide, but choose not to move to the highest level of availability found in the HA/200 cluster configuration.

Investment Protection Both existing and new Compaq ProLiant servers are certified for Compaq ProLiant Cluster HA/F200. This means that customers can build clusters using existing servers or by mixing old and new servers. Customers who purchased the HA/F100 cluster from Compaq can easily migrate to this dual path solution simply by purchasing the new HA/F200 kit and the additional hardware, hubs, FC-AL switches, Compaq Fabric Switches and cables to add the second path to that configuration.

Integrated Solutions

All Compaq ProLiant Clusters integrate hardware and software to provide a total solution for business-critical environments. Compaq ProLiant Servers, interconnect options, system management software, flexibility in configuration support, and implementation documentation have all been thoroughly tested in cluster configurations. Compaq's close relationship with application partners has resulted in the development of cluster application TechNotes, which assists in the rapid deployment of major business applications on Compaq ProLiant Clusters.

Sophisticated System Management Compaq ProLiant Cluster HA/F200 configurations utilize Compaq SmartStart, Compaq Insight Manager, Insight Manager XE - Cluster Monitor, Compaq Cluster Verification Utility, and the Intelligent Cluster Administrator software offerings to enable rapid installation, configuration monitoring and management, as well as deployment of clustered environments throughout the enterprise. Compaq SmartStart and Compaq Insight Manager are now "cluster enabled," allowing easy installation and sophisticated cluster and systems management, either locally or from remote locations.

Components
Servers A broad range of ProLiant server models is supported in the HA/F200. Please check the Compaq High Availability Web site (http://www.compaq.com/highavailability) for an up-to-date listing of certified HA/F200 configurations.
NOTE: This Web site is available in English only.

Server to Server Interconnect Compaq strongly recommends the use of a private network connection between cluster nodes. An Ethernet crossover cable is included in the Compaq ProLiant Cluster HA/F100 Kit for this purpose.

Storage Compaq ProLiant Cluster HA/F200 configurations have been certified with the Compaq StorageWorks RAID Array 4000/4100 (RA4000/4100), as shared storage.

Server-Storage Interconnect Compaq strongly recommends the use of a private network connection between cluster nodes. An Ethernet crossover cable is included in the Compaq ProLiant Cluster HA/F200 kit, and an extended 100 length Ethernet cable kit is available for this purpose.
