Introduction
The Rugged Case for the Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC is designed and tested to resist display damage, dust and water contamination, and damage caused by dropping the iPAQ Pocket PC from a height of up to four feet. The rugged case makes it easier for Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC users to take their handheld wherever they go. A hard plastic cover on the Rugged Case protects the iPAQ Pocket PC, yet still allows the user to view its screen. When the cover is raised, the replaceable, clear protective screen protector of the case remains revealing the screen beneath and allowing the user to interact with the iPAQ while still maintaining protection. Even while using the iPAQ Pocket PC, the case meets IP54 requirements for protection against dust and water contamination. The Rugged Case also allows the iPAQ Pocket PC user to access the DC jack and universal connector via tethered plugs.

Key Benefits
  • Enhances the durability of the iPAQ Pocket PC in drops from up to four feet on any face or corner
  • Allows a Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC user to access the DC jack, universal connector, headphone jack, infrared port, record button, and Compaq CF or PC Card Expansion Pack slots even when the iPAQ Pocket PC is contained in the case
  • Complies with IP54 standards for resistance to water and dust*
  • Features a clear, hard plastic window that helps prevent impact damage to the iPAQ Pocket PC display
  • Includes a screen protector that allows a iPAQ Pocket PC user to access the touchscreen and front buttons while maintaining water and dust resistance
  • Contains a removable belt clip that makes it easier to carry the iPAQ Pocket PC
  • Permits use of a Style Pack, Cover Pack, CF Card Expansion Pack, PC Card Expansion Pack, CF Card Expansion Pack Plus, or PC Card Expansion Pack Plus with the iPAQ Pocket PC

NOTE: * = The Rugged Case is not water and dust resistant when any of the tethered plugs are open to allow use of an external accessory.

Key Features
  • Flip-up door - made from a tough polycarbonate frame (black) and window. When closed, the flip-up door provides protection to the flexible membrane and iPAQ Pocket PC unit. The rigid clear polycarbonate window is sized to allow the user to see the display on all accommodated iPAQ Pocket PC models. The window is hard-coated inside and out for scratch and abrasion resistance.
  • Screen Protector - The flexible membrane provides a means for the user to access the touch screen and all front buttons of the iPAQ Pocket PC. The membrane is made of a tough, tear resistant TPU film. The membrane fits snuggly in a groove located in the upper case half to provide a water and dust resistant seal. The membrane is resistant to discoloration from exposure to sunlight. The membrane is replaceable and is sold separately in three-packs of membranes.
  • Removable belt clip - robust clip is made from tough polycarbonate. The belt clip releases by pressing the snap release arm in a direction away from the main unit. The belt clip features a small ²hook² at the end to prevent the clip form inadvertently slipping off. Replacement belt clips can be ordered separately.
  • Upper and lower case halves - The case halves consist of a tough Polycarbonate structure (black) with scratch and mar resistant TPU elastomer (red) over-mold. Pass-through elastomer ribs cradle the iPAQ and absorb impact energy. The case halves are engaged first at the top where interlocking ²fingers² provide positive engagement. The case halves then snap together on the opposite end. When brought together, features on the sides of the upper and lower case halves create a stylus holder.
The lower case half has attachment rails for the removable belt clip. Two small ²feet² on the back provide a stable footing for the case when layed on its back (belt clip removed). The ²press to open button² is at the bottom of the lower case half. ²Loops² on the lower-case half provide attachment points for a neck strap or lanyard. The tough, high elongation TPU has more than adequate strength to serve this purpose.

At the top of the upper case half, an infrared (IR) transparent door serves two purposes. When closed, its transparency at the correct wavelength allows use of the iPAQ Pocket PC's IR data port while maintaining water and dust resistance to IP-54 standards. The door can also be flipped open to allow access to the iPAQ Pocket PC card slots such as PC card, Compact Flash (CF) or Secure Digital. The IR transparent door is tethered to the upper case half by two tough TPU straps.

Openings in the upper case half provide access to the headphone jack, DC charging jack, and universal connector. When not in use, these openings can be sealed with plugs. These plugs are tethered to the upper case half to prevent them from being lost. When installed, these plugs seal out water and dust to the IP-54 standard.

  • IP-54 - designates the degree of water and dust resistance provided by the Rugged Case. The ²5² means dust protected.  Ingress of dust is not totally prevented, but dust does not enter in sufficient quantities to interfere with satisfactory operation of the equipment.  The ²4² means ²Protected against splashing water.  Water splashed against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effect.² The IP designation is contained in IEC 60529 - Degrees of protection provided by enclosures (IP Code), an international standard that is maintained by the International Electro technical Commission (IEC). The IEC is an international standards and conformity assessment body for all fields of electro technology.
