|
| Introduction |
| The 24X CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive is a 12.7
mm high, user removable, tray load data storage device that can write to
CD-R media at speeds up to 24X, CD-RW media at speeds up to 24X and read
from any industry standard DVD and compact disc media at speeds up to 8X.
The MultiBay 24X Combo Drive communicates data and digital audio to the
host computer via an ATAPI interface. Read DVDs on your notebook or desktop,
and compile and catalog video, sound, photo, and text files on CDs. The
MultiBay 24X Combo Drive also enables you to share multimedia presentations,
archive family records and photos; convert video clips, screen captures,
and still images into custom videos; and create custom CD-R discs in minutes.
Additionally, the 24X Combo Drive can be used for complete data backups
to restore data in the event of catastrophic loss. HP goes to great lengths to provide its customers with the highest performing, most integrated, thoroughly tested computing solutions. This quality combination not only simplifies the purchase and service process by providing one-step shopping, but also increases customer satisfaction and lowers the overall cost of ownership. |

| Key Benefits |
|
| Buffer underruns occur when a computer is
unable to transfer data to the recorder (data stream) fast enough to keep
the recorder's buffer full. Many factors can affect the data stream, slowing
it down or interrupting it completely. CD recording requires a continuous, uninterrupted data stream during the entire write process of a CD-R disc. Successful CD recording occurs only when the flow of data from its source (hard disk, CD-ROM drive, network, etc.) to the recorder is at least as fast as the selected recording speed. All CD recorders have internal buffer memory that temporarily stores data during recording, acting as a ²buffer² against slowdowns in the data stream. The buffer stores a small amount of data that continues to feed the recorder until the flow of data from the source resumes. If an interruption lasts long enough to empty the buffer, a buffer underrun occurs. Buffer management technology in the MultiBay 24X Combo Drive compensates for buffer underrun errors that would otherwise render the CD unusable due to a failure during recording. If a buffer underrun occurs during data transfers while this feature is enabled, the drive will temporarily stop burning, wait until the internal buffer fills with data, and then continue to burn the CD without any apparent interruption to the user. |
