Overview

Adaptec SCSI RAID 2120S Card

Models
AA850A

Introduction
The Adaptec 2120S SCSI Single Channel Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) Controller enables a high performance single channel RAID solution for workstation that provides your choice from maximum uptime and protection against data-loss, or enhanced HD performance, or a combination of the two. It is an ideal solution for professional workstation users who are running Non Linear Video Editing applications or other Digital Content Creation applications, CAD applications, or audio applications. If redundancy and data backup is important to you, or if you work with large files, this SCSI RAID controller will will give you both peace of mind strong performance. This card adds advanced RAID features to the single-channel space including making the full capacity of different sized drives available, RAID level migration, and the ability to create multiple arrays from a single set of drives.
The controller enables a full set of RAID level options; 0, 1, 10, 5, 50, and JBOD. It features a low-profile MD2 form factor and a 66 MHz microprocessor controller. It features Adaptec's Seamless Streaming technology that optimizes disk utilization and enables best use of drive capacity, even across drives of different capacities.
The two primary advantages are performance and advanced RAID functionality. Microprocessor-based RAID uses a dedicated (onboard) intelligent micro-processor to handle all of the RAID functions - resulting in significantly fewer calls to the host microprocessor. This frees up the host CPU and thus results in greater system performance. Furthermore, the dedicated RAID microprocessor is designed to handle advanced RAID features, such as Online Capacity Expansion (OCE) and background initialization much more efficiently than driver software-based RAID.

Performance
The card enables Ultra320 SCSI throughput of up to 320 MB/s. An additional advantage of dedicated Microprocessor-based RAID is that the microprocessor is able to handle all RAID functions. This can improve overall system performance because the CPU does not have to handle as many RAID calls and can be focused on other tasks.
RAID performance features of the card include :
  • Optimized disk utilization
  • Online RAID Level Migration
  • Online Capacity Expansion
  • Background initialization
  • S.M.A.R.T and SAF-TE suppor

Compatibility
The Adaptec 2120S SCSI Single Channel RAID Controller is compatible with the HP Workstations xw5000, xw6000, and xw8000.

Service and Support

The Adaptec SCSI RAID 2120S card carries either a one-year warranty or is covered by the remainder of the warranty period for the system unit in which it is installed - whichever is longer. HP offers a 7 x 24 technical support forum on the Internet.
