Overview

ProLiant Essentials Performance Management Pack (PMP) is a software solution that detects, analyzes, and explains hardware bottlenecks on HP ProLiant servers. HP Integrity servers and HP Storage Works Modular Smart Array shared storage devices. PMP provides the tools you need to receive proactive notification of building bottleneck conditions, monitor system availability and debug existing performance issues. With the PMP software you monitor performance on one or more servers. The performance information is analyzed to determine if there is a building or existing performance bottleneck issue. You can interactively display this information, log the information to a database for later analysis or reporting, and set up proactive notification using the HP Systems Insight Manager notification mechanism.

Performance Management Pack is installed on the same server as the HP Systems Insight Manager console. For physical servers, there is no software required on the monitored server other than the management agents required for HP Systems Insight Manager usage. For virtual servers, a licensed copy of the ProLiant Essentials Virtual Machine Management Pack must be installed on the monitored server.

HP ProLiant Essentials Performance Management Pack is now offered exclusively as a part of Insight Control Environment and Insight Control Environment for BladeSystem. Starting July 9, 2007, Insight Control Environment and Insight Control Environment for BladeSystem will include one year of 24 x 7 Software Technical Support and Update Service ensuring rapid access to HP support staff and proactive delivery of software updates. Standard Features

Monitoring and alerting	Monitors servers and determines, in real time, what components are experiencing performance issues. These issues can cause data-centre personnel notification directly through HP Systems Insight Manager.

Static configuration analysis	Determines if the server configuration contains potentially problematic configurations.

Performance data logging & replay	Log data over time and replay it later with compressed time frames.

Summary reporting and detail reporting	Generate summary reports on performance issues and system utilization or generate detail reports into a comma separated value (csv) file for import into desktop analyses and charting tools.

Systems Insight Manager front-page integration	System performance at a glance displayed on the front page of HP Systems Insight Manager.

Systems Insight Manager notification integration	Allows an administrator to set up rules and actions within HP Systems Insight Manager for notification of performance issues.

Customer Usage Scenarios	Production monitoring & alerting – ProLiant customers who are deploying these servers in production environments can use PMP to identify and diagnose problems that can lead to end-user dissatisfaction in many cases before the dissatisfaction occurs. Active notification of building problems can be set up to alert administrators of the issues before the telephones start ringing. Historical analysis of performance – Customers whose environments change and grow over time can use PMP to store performance data over longer periods and then report on or extract this information for further analysis. Often this analysis will lead to different conclusions for performance trends in the data centre than originally assumed. Verification of pilot projects – By using the static analysis feature – to assure that the initial configuration has no defects – and the dynamic analysis during a pilot project, ProLiant customers can reduce initial rollout complaints while configuring closer to the edge. Consolidating servers – PMP can help an administrator determine which physical server loads might be compatible for combination onto a consolidation server. Further, PMP can be used to monitor the consolidated server environment to assure that no performance issues were introduced

Performance Management Pack is offered exclusively as a part of Insight Control Environment and Insight Control Environment for BladeSystem. Starting in July 2007, Insight Control Environment and Insight Control Environment for BladeSystem will include one year of 24 x 7 HP Software Technical Support and Update Service. This service provides access to HP technical resources for help in resolving software implementation or operations problems. The service also provides access to software updates and reference manuals either in electronic form or on physical media as they are made available from HP.

With this service, Insight Control suite customers will benefit from expedited problem resolution and proactive notification and delivery of Insight Control suite software updates.

To activate your HP Software Technical Support and Update Service for Insight Control Environment and Insight Control Environment for BladeSystem, you must register your software purchase through the HP website at www.hp.com/services/ice. Failure to register your service will jeopardize service fulfillment.

Your Service Agreement Identifier (SAID) will be delivered to you after registration. After you have received your SAID, you can go to the software update manager (SUM) web page to view your contract online and elect electronic delivery (in addition to standard media-based updates). Education Services

Training is an essential part of server management. The ProLiant Essentials curriculum provides a broad range of instructor-led and online courses, designed to build both core and advanced skills in server implementation and management.

Education services can be purchased in two ways:

HP Care Pack Total Education: This pack provides "credits" that can be used for any of more than 200 different instructor-led courses offered at HP education centers. Credits can also be used for any of more than 3,000 online courses offered through the HP IT Resource Centre.

Technology-specific HP Care Pack: These services are designed to meet particular training needs specific to a certain technology or level of training.
