Introduction

The HP 16X DVD+/-RW Drive used with appropriate DVD media deliver a complete solution for high quality video, audio, and interactive DVD multimedia playable on most set-top DVD players and DVD-ROM drives.

The HP 16X DVD+/-RW Drive supports double-layer DVD+R DL media that can hold up to 8.5GB. Double-layer DVD+R discs are written at 2.4X maximum speed. This drive also supports recording digital video and archiving data with write to rated DVD+R at 16X, DVD+RW at 4X, DVD-R at 8X, DVD-RW at 4X, CD-R at 40X and CD-RW media at 24X. A single-layer DVD+R/+RW disc holds up to 4.7GB of information.

The drive reads from industry standard (stamped) DVD-ROM media at 16X and CD-ROM media at 40X. Read speeds for recordable DVD media are limited to 8X maximum.

The HP 16X DVD+/-RW Drive is ideal for videographers, corporate, educational, government, and traditional entertainment and media customers. The HP 16X DVD+/-RW Drive writes data at a maximum rate of 21,600 Kbytes/sec to DVD+R media and 5400 Kbytes/sec to DVD+RW media. These transfer rates, combined with the capacity of the media, extensive compatibility, and conformance to worldwide DVD standards, make the HP 16X DVD+/-RW Drive and the DVD+R and DVD+RW media a highly efficient and cost-effective storage solution.

Performance & Features

The 16X DVD+/-RW offers excellent performance with DVD+R media. Using DVD+R certified 16x media, the 16X DVD+/-RW Drive can write a full disk (4.7 GB) in approximately 4 minutes.

Using DVD+RW certified 4x media, the 16X DVD+/-RW Drive offers excellent 4X performance as well, with the ability to write a full disk (4.7 GB) in as little as 15 minutes.

Compatibility

The 16X DVD+/-RW Drive is compatible with HP xw Series Workstations.
NOTE: This DVD writer kit does not include any software for burning DVDs on Linux. DVD burning is supported with the 'growisofs' command. CD burning is supported with the 'cdrecord' command. Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS 3 distribution includes both 'cdrecord' and 'growisofs'. Red Hat Linux 7.2, 7.3, 8, 9.0 distributions only include 'cdrecord'. Therefore DVD burning is only supported on WS 3.

The 16X DVD+/-RW Drive has a one-year Limited Warranty or the remainder of the warranty of the HP product in which it is installed. Technical support is available seven days a week, 24 hours a day by phone, as well as in online support forums. Certain restrictions and exclusions apply.
