NIS+ |
||||
|
NIS+ (Network Information Service Plus) is a distributed database system that replaces copies of commonly replicated configuration files with a centralized management facility. Instead of managing the files on each host (like /etc/hosts, /etc/passwd, and so on), NIS+ maintains one database for each file on one central server which allows information to be centralized network wide. NIS+ was originally designed to replace NIS but has become a parallel product instead. NIS+ provides an NIS compatibility mode, but it is a completely different service. |
