Red Hat Network Management and Provisioning modules manage the complete lifecycle of your Linux infrastructure. You can deploy, configure, manage, update and then re-deploy your Linux systems from a single console-complete with all the necessary enterprise functionality and controls.

Red Hat Network Management module capabilities include:

• Systems grouping-Manage a group of systems as easily as you would manage a single system.
  
• Systems permissions-Group your systems according to your needs and then assign permissions to different administrators.
  
• Scheduled actions-Schedule an errata update for a system or group, taking advantage of scheduled downtime for errata maintenance.
  
• System search-Search systems or workgroups by packages, errata or systems specifications. Advanced search offers even more granularity.
  
• Package profile comparison tools-Compare two systems directly against each other, or build a package profile of your own to compare against. Results let you see the differences on both machines.

Red Hat Network Provisioning module capabilities include:

• Existing state provisioning-Easily software provision a system to take on the state of an existing system or a predefined installation with a simple point and click.
  
• Multi-state rollback (includes snapshot based recovery)-Record the state of all your systems every time an action is applied. This capability serves as a repository for state information. Multi-state rollback allows your system to return to a previous state or configuration instantly.
  
• Configuration management-Easily configure text files for individual or groups of systems. Combine with Kickstart actions to enable a complete provisioning action.
  
• RPM-based application provisioning-More than just OS provisioning, Red Hat Network allows application-based provisioning for all RPM-based applications-completely integrated with the rest of RHN. This is accomplished via a custom channel on RHN.
  
• Kickstart configuration writer-Write Kickstart configuration scripts with the Provisioning module, or point to an existing system and have RHN create the script to provision that system.

The Red Hat Network has three network architectures: a hosted model, a proxy model and a satellite model. This bundle implements the proxy model. The RHN Proxy Server software is installed on one of the blade servers within the BladeSystem enclosure. It uses one of the eight RHEL4 licenses included with the bundle.

The following standard services of the Red Hat Network are included as part of the Update entitlement for each blade server in the BladeSystem enclosure:

• Simple web user interface
  
• Priority e-mail notification
  
• Errata information
  
• RPM dependency checking

The addition of the Proxy Server provides the following additional functionality:

• Single port access-Connections to the Red Hat Network for all blade servers within the BladeSystem enclosure are redirected through a single external network.
  
• Local package caching-As updated RPMs are accessed from the external Red Hat Network, they are cached locally by the Proxy Server. External network bandwidth is minimized, as updated RPMs for each blade server within the BladeSystem enclosure are accessed from the Proxy Server instead of over the external network connection.
  
• Custom HP channel-The bundle comes with a Channel Setup Guide that explains the process for setting up an HP Channel on the Red Hat Network. Specially signed RPMs for key HP Linux components are downloaded from HP and installed on the Proxy Server for distribution through the custom channel. Updates for both Red Hat and HP RPMs are then made available to all blade servers within the BladeSystem enclosure via the standard RHN up2date process.
