Availability and Usage

Key Features
  • ProLiant and Integrity Software Distribution: Server software components and support packs that are available from hp.com can be distributed and installed to defined groups of remote servers. This includes individual drivers, BIOS, and software agents as well as ProLiant Support Packs. Newest ProLiant Support Packs and two versions prior are support for installation to Windows 2000 Server and Windows 2003 clients. Specifics of supported components are defined in the product documentation.
  • Adjustable scope for performing an inventory of ProLiant and Integrity servers: The scope of the management collection can be limited and adjusted to logical groups of servers that are managed collectively. For example, scope can be adjusted to sort server inventory by server model or Microsoft® Windows® version to simplify definition of update requirements and facilitate large-scale software deployments using SMS.
  • Taking inventory of current server configurations: Server collections can be scanned to enumerate the software, firmware, and support pack configurations of each server. Pre-defined reports simplify identification of currently installed (or missing) components.
  • Monitoring update status and outcome: Log files are created to allow post-deployment audits of updates.
  • Taking inventory of hardware specific information: Insight Hardware Inventory Collector utility is provided for users of this unique utility to inventory hardware-specific components and elements.

Benefits
  • Leverage unique ProLiant value through SMS: Take advantage of HP's extensive capability to test and deliver complete server software kits. By making Support Packs and individual components from hp.com available for distribution via SMS, HP has further expanded the range of choices available to customers to ensure efficient and complete server change and configuration management.
  • Combine Microsoft and HP management tools: The Inventory Tool enables SMS users to combine the best management technologies. All of the ProLiant Essentials, Integrity Essentials, System Insight Management and OpenView tools will work alongside SMS. This allows the customer to choose the best combination of management products from the broadest choices offered by any server vendor.
  • Integration of Windows server software distribution: By using the Inventory Tool, customers can rely on SMS to manage and distribute all operating system and server software to the ProLiant and Integrity servers in their infrastructure. Consistent, complete software management reduces operating cost and improves operational reliability.
  • Ease of use: The Inventory Tool is built entirely within the design framework of SMS. Users familiar with SMS will find the tool to be obvious and intuitive to operate. HP support is fully backed by Microsoft to ensure that the user's experience is positive and productive.
  • Collect Utility: Supports the distribution and installation of the Collect utility for hardware inventory for legacy users of this tool.
