HP Data Protector Express Single Server Edition 4.0

HP Data Protector Express Single Server Edition is easy to install, easy to use and easy to manage backup and recovery software. It is only available with HP StorageWorks tape drives and HP StorageWorks tape autoloaders. This powerful software protects a single Windows, Linux or NetWare server by backing it up to a HP tape drive, tape autoloader, disk and/or CD/DVD.
Also included with these HP StorageWorks tape products is the HP Data Protector Express Bare Metal Disaster Recovery option software. The Data Protector Express Bare Disaster Recovery (BMDR) option adds the capability to quickly recover a server to an operational state following a serious hardware or software failure. The Data Protector Express BMDR option provides CD/DVD-based disaster recovery or HP tape-based disaster recovery utilizing the tape drive's One Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR) feature. The Data Protector Express BMDR option plus the OBDR feature is the fastest way to recover a Windows or Linux server after a serious failure.

NOTE: Data Protector Express Single Server Edition provides a subset of the functionality of Data Protector Express. Users of Data Protector Express Single Server Edition can upgrade to Data Protector Express at a discount to the regular price of Data Protector Express by ordering part number BB117BT. Once the software is upgraded to Data Protector Express, the Data Protector Express options can be added to protect additional machines, protect online applications and add other functionality.

Part Numbers

Data Protector Express Single Server Edition is not available to order. It is only available with the purchase of a HP StorageWorks tape drive or HP StorageWorks tape autoloader. The part numbers below are to upgrade Data Protector Express Single Server Edition to Data Protector Express and to then extend the installation with Data Protector Express options.

The Data Protector Express Bare Metal Disaster Recovery option included with Data Protector Express Single Server Edition remains enabled, for a single machine, after the upgrade to Data Protector Express.

HP Data Protector Express Network Server Agent (BB121BA, BB122BA)
Required to add a server-class machine to the Data Protector Express Storage Domain and enables that machine as a media server for the Storage Domain. Enables backup over the network to a shared backup device and the connection and backup to a local backup device. One Network Server Backup Agent required for each machine added to the Storage Domain. Available in a single pack (BB121BA) and three pack (BB122BA).

HP Data Protector Express Online Application Agent (BB125BA)
Enables online protection for Microsoft Exchange Servers and Microsoft SQL Servers. The backup runs without taking the application offline. Also requires a Network Server Agent unless running on the same machine as the Backup Server. One LTU needed per machine for each application protected.

HP Data Protector Express Bare Metal Disaster Recovery (BB128BA)
Get productive again quickly after a disaster or failure. Automate system recovery and return system to state of last full backup without requiring a reinstallation of the operating system. Supports the HP One Button Disaster Recovery feature of HP tape products. One LTU per machine that requires automated disaster recovery.

HP Data Protector Express D2Any2Any Option (BB130BA)
Enable multi-tier backup between different media types. Automate the movement of backed up data from backup media to tertiary media for longer term retention and additional protection. Works with Data Protector Express D2D backup (Virtual Library), Virtual Tape Libraries and all other supported media. Automatic, policy-driven movement of backup data from secondary to tertiary media. Enables disk-to-disk-to-tape backup with direct recovery from tape.

HP Data Protector Express Drive Expansion (1 incremental drive) (BB133BA)
Add support for multi-drive tape libraries, virtual tape libraries and Data Protector Express Virtual Libraries. One license required for each drive in excess of one per tape library, virtual tape library or Virtual Library. There are no additional licenses required based on the number of slots used in the library.

Hardware
Prerequisites

Most operating systems list both minimum and recommended system requirements. As a general rule, if your system meets the minimum requirements for the operating system, it will also meet the minimum system requirements for Data Protector Express. However, for better performance, we recommend that your system meets or exceeds the operating system's recommended requirements. Depending on your specific requirements, as well as exceeding the operating system's recommended requirements, your system should also have the following:

300MB of hard disk space for Data Protector Express application
20MB of hard disk space for Data Protector Express Catalog (minimum)
CD drive for Data Protector Express Single Server Edition installation (recommended)
CD/DVD writer or bootable HP tape device for use with the Data Protector Express Bare Metal Disaster Recovery option
VGA display with 1024x768 resolution (minimum)

Software Licensing

All HP StorageWorks tape drive and HP StorageWorks tape autoloader customers are entitled to a permanent license key for Data Protector Express Single Server Edition at no cost. Data Protector Express Single Server Edition also has an embedded evaluation license that can be used for up to 60 days after installation. The easiest way to acquire the free permanent license key for Data Protector Express Single Server Edition is to follow the instructions on the Data Protector Express Single Server Edition Splash Screen.

Alternatively; In the 'doc' directory, located in the root of the Data Protector Express Single Server Edition CD-ROM is a file called ' License Key Entitlement Certificate DP Express SSE.pdf'. This file contains an Order Number that is exchanged for a permanent license key for the software. The file also has instructions describing the simple web-based process1 to acquire the permanent license key.
It is recommended to acquire the permanent license key before installation of Data Protector Express Single Server Edition so the permanent license key can be entered as part of the installation process. Alternatively, Data Protector Express Single Server Edition can be installed using the embedded evaluation license. This evaluation license is valid for 60 days post installation. After 60 days the software stops working, unless a permanent license key is acquired and entered. When a permanent license key is entered all previous jobs and setting are accessible again.
In order to purchase Data Protector Express using the discounted upgrade part number, the Data Protector Express Single Server Edition permanent license key must be acquired and entered because the installation of the upgrade license key checks for the existence of a Data Protector Express Single Server Edition permanent license key, without this it will not work.

For Data Protector Express Single Server Edition 4.0: The permanent Data Protector Express Single Server Edition license key is delivered via HP's WebWare service at: https://webware.hp.com/welcome.asp. Registration by post, fax and e-mail is also possible.

Why Upgrade Data Protector Express Single Server Edition to Data Protector Express?
Data Protector Express Single Server Edition is based on Data Protector Express but does not include all the features of Data Protector Express. If you upgrade to Data Protector Express you keep all the functionality of Data Protector Express Single Server Edition as well as adding:

Network backup: Add options to consolidate the backup of all machines on your network. Share backup devices and manage your data protection centrally.
Encrypt backups to any device: With Data Protector Express Single Server Edition you can have the security of encrypted backups when writing to backup devices that support encryption. With Data Protector Express you can encrypt backups before they are written to the backup device expanding your choice of secure backup targets.
Unlimited D2D backup capacity: Upgrading to Data Protector Express removes the 36GB limit for D2D backup allowing you to make much more extensive use of the D2D backup capability (Data Protector Express Virtual Libraries).
Increased backup scheduling frequency: Data Protector Express Single Server Edition allows daily backups. Once upgrade to Data Protector Express, you can backup hourly or even each minute to reduce exposure to data loss.
Protect Windows notebooks and desktops: Upgrading to Data Protector Express includes unlimited licenses for scheduled backups of Windows notebooks and desktops.
Added performance: Data Protector Express allows up to 8 data streams to be written or read from a backup device, in parallel, for improved performance. Data Protector Express Single Server Edition supports 4 parallel data streams.
Extended tape drive support: Data Protector Express Single Server Edition supports HP tape drives, HP tape autoloaders and HP tape libraries. Data Protector Express additionally supports other vendors tape products.
Open file backup on Windows: Data Protector Express includes support for Microsoft Volume Copy Shadow Service (VSS) on NTFS.
Rights to version upgrades: The support packaged with Data Protector Express includes rights to version upgrades.
Add options and functional extensions: Once Data Protector Express Single Server Edition is upgraded to Data Protector Express options can be added for added protection and scalability. These include; network backup, online application backup, D2Any2Any backup and recovery and multi-drive library support.

Service and Support, HP Care Pack, and Warranty Information

Support included with the Product	1 year standard business hours support is included with Data Protector Express Single Server Edition and the Data Protector Express Bare Metal Disaster Recovery option providing business hours phone support and rights to Service Packs for defect resolution.
Additional Services Information	There are no additional services available for Data Protector Express Single Server Edition. There are HP Care Pack Services available after Data Protector Express Single Server Edition is upgraded to Data Protector Express.
