Introduction

HP Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) hard drives are high-performance alternatives to SATA hard drives. SAS hard drives combine high-bandwidth and faster data transfer rates with better error detection and recovery, as well as having higher reliability specifications.

HP's 2.5” Small Form Factor (SFF) model SAS hard drives make it possible to install more hard drives into your workstation than with traditional 3.5” hard drives. In some applications, more physical hard drives can result in higher random data access performance. SFF hard drives require the use of a bay adapter, which converts 2 bays to 3, or 4 bays to 6, enabling up to 6 hard drives in specific high-end HP workstations.

As the technology evolves, device support will be further enhanced, making it an even more attractive alternative for high end users who want a solution far superior and more flexible than any other storage technology. The results of aligning the SAS and SATA technologies provide even greater choices to the storage industry.

SAS based hard drives are ideal for projects requiring storage capacity growth, transactional applications and performance oriented requirements where throughput and reliability are an absolute must.


Performance
HP SAS Hard Drives offer sustained data transfer rates of 50 to 120 MB/s for sequential read operations. Sustained data transfer rates vary with drive speed, capacity and model.

  • "Star" topology (point-to-point, no hubs). Each device gets full bus bandwidth.

  • Features SMART and Drive Self Test hard drive technologies

Compatibility

Most HP Serial Attached SCSI Hard Drives are compatible with the HP xw4400, xw4600, xw6400, xw6600, xw8400, xw8600 and xw9400 workstations. The SFF 2.5”versions are only compatible with the HP xw6600 and xw8600 workstations.
NOTE: Not all models available in all regions or all workstation models.


Service and Support
Serial Attached SCSI Hard Drives have a one-year Limited Warranty or the remainder of the warranty of the HP product in which it is installed. Technical support is available seven days a week, 24 hours a day by phone, as well as in online support forums. Certain restrictions and exclusions apply.
