Overview

HP ProLiant Essentials RDMA Pack for Multifunction Gigabit Server Adapter
 
The HP ProLiant Essentials RDMA Pack enables the Multifunction NIC on a ProLiant server. Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) is a communications protocol that provides direct transmission of data from the memory of one computer to the memory of another with minimal demands on the host CPU. RDMA provides a high-speed, high-performance connection between servers on the same network. RDMA Pack licenses are port-based; the licensed seats are available to individual ports on the Multifunction NIC.

Customer Benefits
  • To move large amounts of data (generally for large I/Os) such as HPC (High Performance Computing), data mining, backups
  • Moving large amounts of data take protocol processing generally done by the server CPU such as buffer segmentation and reassembly
  • Databases read/write and network backups generally have significant network load and cause CPU bottlenecks
  • RDMA offloads the transport stack to the Multifunction NIC
