When ordering ICE, customers will receive a printed license entitlement certificate via physical shipment. The license entitlement certificate must be redeemed online or via fax in order to obtain the license activation key(s).

NOTE: The integrated installer will recognize and use or upgrade existing installations of HP SIM and RDP and can be used to update components to the latest revision supplied on the Insight Software DVDs. The Insight Software DVD #1 in the Insight Software Media Kit contains the Insight Control suite.

NOTE: The Insight Control Environment for BladeSystem suite is no longer being sold as standalone software. The Insight Software DVD integrated installer provides a streamlined, automated process to deploy and configure HP SIM and essential management software more consistently and rapidly, with less manual intervention.

The integrated installer includes a wizard-based interface that presents a series of configuration questions. Once the configuration questions have been completed, each of the selected components will be deployed as a single process.

The HP Insight Software Advisor (formerly named HP Insight Control Management Advisor) also checks to ensure that the host central management server meets all installation pre-requites prior to initiating the installation process. Once the installation has completed, use the Insight Software Update Utility to check for available software updates.

HP Insight Control suite, based on HP Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM), provides a unified, secure and extensible platform to centrally manage servers, storage and other infrastructure devices across hetrogeneous operating system environments.

HP SIM provides core management services that include device discovery and identification, event views, health monitoring, inventory data collection, software version control and reporting. HP SIM is built on industry standards and is extensible with value-added essential management software as well as custom application and scripts to meet individual management needs.

HP Insight Control suite, through iLO Advanced, provide comprehensive lights-out remote management capabilities for ProLiant servers, including high-performance virtual KVM for routine and emergency remote administration, remote access to server power control and event logs, virtual media for simple deployment and update of remote servers, and single server power measurement and regulation.

With the latest versions of the iLO Advanced, HP now helps distributed IT teams effectively collaborate to solve complex IT problems. The new shared console capability allows up to four team members to view and share control of a single virtual KVM session. In addition "console replay" captures and saves screen video to enable review of failure sequences and easily document complex configuration administrative tasks.

HP Insight Control suite delivers precise power and thermal measurement and reporting for HP ProLiant ML/DL 300 and 500 series and HP ProLiant BladeSystem Infrastructure. ICE includes dynamic power capping and power management alerts for HP ProLiant and BladeSystem infrastructure. These capabilities increase the number of servers that can be deployed per circuit by as much as 36%. Dynamic power capping for single servers allows you to safely reclaim unused power and cooling capacity by limiting power usage without risk or performance degregation or circuit over-subscription. Dynamics power capping for BladeSystem enclosures delivers additional savings by allowing an enclosure level power budget to be dynamically shared across multiple ProLiant BL servers. Power management alerts help you optimize dynamic power capping settings by informing you when power caps have been reach at the server or enclosure level.

The Insight Power Manager function is supported on a select group of ProLiant servers that ship with the iLO2 management processor. NOTE: The power management capability will not function for HP ProLiant DL785 G5 servers.

HP Insight Control suite leverages the Insight Performance Manager module (PMP) to detect impending bottleneck conditions on HP ProLiant servers, HP Integrity servers and HP shared storage. PMP provides proactive notification of building bottleneck conditions, and vital information to help debug and remediate existing performance issues.

Performance data is presented through an interactive graphical interface and can also be logged to a database for later analysis or reporting. PMP includes configurable settings to define monitoring frequency and proactive notification through HP Systems Insight Manager.

HP Insight Control suite delivers a complete deployment solution for HP ProLiant servers through HP Insight Rapid Deployment software (RDP). The process includes server hardware configuration, image or script-based installation of OS and applications, and installation of HP ProLiant Support Pack drivers.

With Insight Control suite in place, server deployments become faster, are more consistent, and less prone to human error.

HP Insight Control suite incorporates the Insight Vulnerability and Patch Manager module (VPM) which integrates and simplifies the assessment and resolution of vulnerabilities in operating system for Windows and Linux platforms from within HP Systems Manager.

Powered by STAT® Scanner, the Insight Vulnerability and Patch Manager module automates the scan and detection of security vulnerabilities and provides actionable advice for problem resolution. It also facilitates automated patch deployment, selecting the appropriate patches based on the results of security scans.

VPM automatically downloads patches directly from vendor sources at customer-defined intervals. Updates can be downloaded directly into the patch repository or, in instances where firewall policies prevent http and ftp downloads, acquired outside the data center and manually imported.

Included with HP Insight Control suite, the Insight Virtual Machine Manager software (VMM) delivers unified management and control of VMware®, Microsoft®, and Citrix virtual machines. Capabilities include association of virtual machines with their physical hosts in HP SIM; monitoring performance for easy identification of VMs or host servers reaching high CPU, memory or disk utilization levels; moving VMs between host servers, including initiating live moves (on supported platforms; requires VMotion for VMware VMs); and rapid recovery capabilities that enable restoration of VMs on any available host. Additionally, VMM offers the ability to evacuate virtual machines from VMware ESX host servers upon receipt of hardware predictive hardware failure alerts by initiating moves using VMware DRS and VMotion. This reduces downtime by relocating the VMs before the host server fails.

With unified management of physical and virtual resources, systems administrators now have the ability extend existing processes to the management of their virtualized infrastructure while leveraging best in class technology for virtual machine deployment, monitoring, and control.

HP Insight Control suite supports management of all HP ProLiant ML/DL 300, 500 and 700 series servers and BladeSystem infrastructure. HP Insight Control Environment for BladeSystem standalone software will be discontinued on April 30, 2009 (only very limited ordering is possible) and obsolete (no more ordering allowed) on July 31, 2009. Customer can continue to purchase the Insight Control suite for BladeSystem as part of the c-Class enclosure.

There may be minor discrepancies in hardware support between different software components, so customers are encouraged to consult the detailed Insight Control suite Support Matrix or individual QuickSpecs for the products listed in the "Included Products" section for specifics on platform support.

To enable the power management capabilities of HP Insight Control, target servers must have an embedded power meter.
