HP StorageWorks EVA Dynamic Capacity Management Software provides a comprehensive solution that automates storage provisioning and improves capacity utilization on the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) family. Designed for the enterprise market, EVA DC-Management Software uses advanced automation to automatically "right-size" the supported file system and the EVA Vdisk storage volume to the needs of an application. This dramatically improves capacity utilization by allowing the administrator to simply specify a capacity utilization range of the Vdisk. In some cases, EVA DC-Management Software can more than double storage utilization when compared to traditional storage provisioning methods where utilization may be as low as 20% to 40%.

Configuring EVA DC- Management Software policies takes just seconds with its effortless wizards and advanced automation. The simple "set and forget" provisioning not only reduces the resource cost of ongoing storage provisioning, but also allows for the potential postponement of additional capacity purchases due to increased storage utilization. This also helps reduce the operational costs of powering and cooling unnecessary storage while helping the environment by lowering the enterprise's carbon footprint.

• File systems and storage volumes are automatically expanded online as application needs increase, or shrunk to reclaim unused capacity that can returned to the disk group for use by other applications

With HP Replication Solutions Manager EVA, HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management, HP Business Copy EVA and HP Continuous Access EVA features can easily be managed through a single pane of glass. These features are enabled through license key(s) that are entered into either HP Command View EVA and, or HP Replication Solutions Manager EVA. If a feature (e.g. HP Business Copy EVA) is not licensed, the attempted action may be prevented and logged in the replication manager event pane.

HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management offers a simple method of licensing. See the Ordering Information section for more details.

1. The first option: HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management EVA3000/4000/5000/6000/8000 series 1TB entry level license where up to 1TB of storage can have HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management polices configured. 1TB LTU's can be combined to increase licensed capacity. For example, three 1TB LTU's can be combined to provide a total license capacity of 3TB for a single EVA.
2. The second option (recommended): HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management Unlimited Capacity use per EVA3000/4000/5000/6000/8000 series license where the only limit to the amount of data that HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management polices can be configured is the total capacity that the array hardware, controllers and disk drives can actually accommodate. Once purchased, you no longer have to purchase additional capacity licenses to accommodate new capacity growth.
3. The third option: is the purchase of an upgrade from 1TB(s) to Unlimited Capacity. The Upgrade to Unlimited License-to-Use (LTU) provides the same rights as Unlimited Capacity LTU.
4. HP Replication Solutions Manager EVA includes a free trial period (Instant On) of HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management features for a period of sixty (60) days from installation. It is recommended that HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management features be used in non-production environments during the unlicensed free trial period. This free trail period is for customer evaluation and demonstration use only.
   

Licensing Guidelines:

1. 1. HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management requires HP Replication Solutions Manager as the management interface. HP Replication Solutions Manager (RSM) can be obtained by 1) Ordering the combination media kit HP Command View v8.0/RSM 4.0 media kit (PN T3724F), 2) Ordering the HP Replication Solutions Manager v3.1 media kit (PN T3680G) or 3) Visit the EVA Software Depot for a free copy of HP Replication Solutions Manager. 2. The total licensed capacity for a HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management LTU is based on the source volume(s) usable capacity (After Vraid).
3. HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management licenses are not transferable to like, or unlike EVA models. When enabling HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management features on an EVA a new license must be purchased.
4. HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management License-to-Use (LTU) is not upgradeable, or transferable between EVA models. Each EVA using HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management must be licensed individually.
5. HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management monitors the amount of data configured as compared to the amount of data permitted to be configured based on the License-to-use (LTU) capacity. If this LTU capacity limit is exceeded, a warning event will be issued and some features may be disabled. The user will be permitted to continue using the HP Dynamic Capacity Management EVA features and will need to add the appropriate LTU to remain compliant to the End-User-License-Agreement (EULA).
6. HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management requires that the HP Command View EVA is in full compliance to license requirements of its software terms. If HP Command View EVA is non-compliant, some features in HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management may not be fully enabled.
7. Licenses obtained through the Not-For-Resale (NFR) program, temporary licenses, loaner licenses, Instant-on or any other license at no charge are provided strictly for evaluation and demonstration use. These licenses do not include support services, may or may not include product documentation, must adhere to all terms, conditions and time limits.

Example 1: Customer has an existing, or is purchasing a new EVA with Windows Server 2003 environment and wants to add HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management
Answer 1: First, simply order the HP Replication Solutions Manager v4.0EVA media kit (or combination Command View v8.0/RSM 4.0 media kit) and second, order the HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management license-to-use (LTU's) based on the amount of capacity that will be managed with this feature or 3) Visit the EVA Software Depot for a free copy of HP Replication Solutions Manager. (http://h20293.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductsList.do?category=SWSDED). Once the entitlement certificates are received and license keys generated, the key will be entered into HP Replication Solutions Manager. HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management features can be used up to the licensed capacity.

Example 2: How is the amount of licensed capacity needed determined?
Answer 2: The first option is to license the entire array by purchasing and installing the Unlimited Capacity LTU. This will allow the feature to be used unrestricted up to any capacity point on the array that has been licensed.

If the business needs require that only a portion of the EVA be enabled for this feature, the second option is to use a combination of low cost 1TB LTU's to meet or exceed the amount of storage capacity that will be configured with HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management. A simple example would be to assume that a group of applications will need 3TB of storage over a period of 1 year. However, at deployment their needs are much lower at 1TB. The administrator would configure the Vdisks to these applications for the estimated initial storage requirement of 1TB and then configure Extend/Shrink policies using HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management. At Minimum, it would be suggested that 2TBs of HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management be purchased initially to cover the initial configuration plus six months of expected growth. Or to minimize the need to purchase and install additional licenses, it would be recommended to purchase the full 3TBs of HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management to cover the full expected growth of the application.

Example 3: An EVA is licensed with HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management 1TB LTU's and now the customer would like to license the full array.
Answer 3: HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management Upgrade to Unlimited LTU's are designed for this purpose. Regardless of how much capacity is currently configured using 1TB LTU's, purchase the appropriate model Upgrade PN.

Example 4: An EVA is licensed with HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management and now the customer would like to transfer their licenses, or upgrade to a new array.
Answer 4: HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management LTU's are non-transferable. New licenses will be required as shown in example 1.
