Compaq Insight Manager XE, a Web-based Enterprise Management (WBEM) application, transforms management of standards-based distributed computing environments. By enabling browser access to both managed devices and the management application, Compaq Insight Manager XE provides management of devices and groups of devices anywhere, anytime.
Today most Compaq Management Agents provide the ability to browse directly through Compaq systems for real-time system, subsystem and component information and status. With Compaq Insight Manager XE, not only will you be able to browse directly to the systems with the web-enabled Management Agent, but you will also be able to browse to systems with:
- Web-Enabled Compaq Management Agents (V4.0 and higher)
- SNMP or DMI management agents
- V3.1 or higher Compaq Server Management Agents,
- V3.51 or higher Compaq Client Management Agents,
- Third-party devices with SNMP MIB-2 or DMI V2 agents
- Compaq Insight Manager LC (light console for clients)
- Compaq Intelligent Cluster Administrator
- Non-Compaq web services running on a device
Compaq Insight Manager XE was built from the ground up as a web application to work with industry-standard management agents. It uses a browser as the user interface, providing easy access at anytime from anywhere on your Intranet. The management application, Compaq Insight Manager XE consists of these core capabilities:
- Manage Devices provides basic access to the devices on your network and their overall status. The main screen classifies your devices together based on their type and condition and provides one-click access to those groupings. Custom queries can be performed and scheduled without programming. These query results can either be viewed in a live database table on screen or be used to actuate notification, control or polling tasks. Manage Devices also contains Cluster Monitor that provides the administrator the capability to monitor Windows NT Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS) clusters from a browser. The Cluster Monitor allows the administrator to customize cluster monitor points, polling rates, and views of clusters, so business critical applications can be monitored different ways from standard servers if required.
- Manage Events uses the same basic concepts as Manage Devices but for events. An event is defined as something that happens, such as an informational alert when a new device is discovered, predictive alerts, threshold notifications or failure warnings. Events are grouped and classified on the main screen for one-click access to the details and you can define your own queries to present the information in any manner or grouping that you need. When an event occurs, Insight Manager XE can trigger a task to perform notification, control or polling operations.
- Administer Insight Manager XE allows you to create and edit user accounts, configure the cluster monitor and determine the frequency and scope of discovery tasks.
Compaq Insight Manager XE provides system administrators a higher-level of control through its visual interface, comprehensive fault and configuration management and industry-leading web based management for clusters as well as its stand-alone systems.
Compaq Insight Manager XE includes a cluster monitor web-based subsystem that monitors the operation of Compaq ProLiant Clusters using Microsoft Cluster Server option of NT Enterprise Edition Version 4.0, providing a common interface for all management operations that previously required two or more interfaces.
The Cluster Monitor provides aggregated system data and presentation to the administrator as a single view of their cluster configurations featuring a graphical interface that includes extensive on-line documentation and context-sensitive help.
Compaq Insight Manager XE features on-line HTML documentation and robust context-based help. Compaq Insight Manager XE continues to build on the Compaq commitment to superior systems management capabilities which lower total cost of ownership by delivering a leadership management product.
For the first time Compaq Insight Manager XE enables monitoring of third-party devices. Compaq Insight Manager XE will recognize that a non-Compaq device exists and be able to see SNMP MIB-2 and DMI V2 standard information. This can be done either real-time from the device or through the management server database.
