HP Insight Control for Linux (IC-Linux) is essential server management for Linux environments of industry-standard HP ProLiant servers. It enables productivity for system administrators in both Enterprise and Cluster environments. HP Insight Control for Linux integrates a robust feature set of the best of open source and HP technologies for discovery, imaging & provisioning, rapid server deployment, health & performance management, remote management, virtualization (XEN® & VMware®), and power management. Open source software, such as Nagios® and XEN®, are fully integrated and auto-configured for immediate user productivity. Lifecycle management is complemented by multi-system scaling, power management, and direct-to-the-hardware control. HP Insight Control for Linux is backed by HP’s Linux expertise and global HP Support.

What's new

HP Insight Control for Linux v6.00 provides

  1. Virtualization management for VMware® ESX & ESXi host installations,
  2. Capability for running HP Insight Control for Linux in a XEN® virtual machine guest,
  3. Virtual Media support for installation in iLO-based servers without PXE/DHCP,
  4. Scaling enhancements for operation with 1000+ physical nodes,
  5. Easy-to-use performance management enhancements for at-a-glance summary views across large system environments from a variety of customizable metrics,
  6. Power management enhancements for Datacenter power control and Power monitoring,
  7. Firmware updating and Reporting improvements in HP Systems Insight Manager,
  8. Updated Linux operating system support (e.g. SLES 11, RHEL 5.4), and
  9. Broad HP ProLiant support for blade-, rack-, tower-, and scalable- servers (i.e. HP ProLiant BL-, DL-, ML-, SL- series servers; including IPMI, iLO, and iLO2 functionality).
  • “Linux-managed Reference Platforms” (with RHEL AP & HP Insight Control for Linux) are new capabilities for Linux users in business-critical environments. New bundled capabilities combine the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL Advanced Platform) and HP Insight Control for Linux (IC-Linux) management suite with global HP Support. Red Hat’s RHEL on HP ProLiant & BladeSystem servers is the leading low-cost, high-performance alternative to expensive legacy infrastructure. When RHEL is combined with HP management technology and HP support, these “Linux-managed Reference Platforms” provide a simplified single-source-of-support for server, OS, and management with high availability and virtualization -- with better value, better technology, better management, and better service for discerning Linux users.
  • A new solution “Using Insight Control for Linux to manage HP ProLiant DL785 G6 servers running Oracle VM” is a configuration for Linux users in business-critical environments. This solution uses standard HP products (i.e. DL785 server, Insight Control for Linux) to enable Linux users to run Oracle applications on Oracle Virtualization Manager (OVM) in an integrated x86 physical & virtual environment on the ProLiant DL785 rack server. This configuration has been enabled by HP. Support for the Oracle Virtual Machine software is available from Oracle, and support for the HP ProLiant DL785 server and HP Insight Control for Linux software is available from HP. Ideal environment

Ideal for...

Linux-centric organizations managing complex growing environments with a variety of open source tools and utilities.
  • Realize immediate productivity gains using an integrated suite of management tools, designed for Linux users to control Linux infrastructures of industry-standard x86 servers.
  • Perform effective lifecycle management using robust Linux toolsets for discovery, rapid deployment, imaging & provisioning, firmware updates, health & performance management, virtualization (i.e. VMware® , XEN®), remote management, and power management.
  • Remove guesswork from your infrastructure -- managing health using integrated & auto-configured Nagios® and managing performance using customizable tools designed to control large environments. Customize & extend your management capabilities using your own Nagios® plug-ins, CLI or GUI interfaces, or thresholds & alerts to an enterprise management system.
  • Manage power and save resources using Dynamic Power Capping in HP’s industry-leading power management solution.

Teams, workgroups, and departments that flexibly manage clusters to enhance their output.
  • Manage performance of clusters of servers, using the architected ‘avalanche’ mode for deployment and tiered management hubs for monitoring.
  • Work ‘at scale’ in large-node environments using distributed Linux management of server groups & classes that allows for cloning of user-created images, remote deployment of OS, images or scripts, pre-defined management hub configurations, and integrated system firmware updates.
  • Integrate health and performance management for large environments, including use of an 'at-a-glance' performance assessment from a wide variety of metrics across a large number of systems. Customization is supported by custom metrics and user extensions.
  • Maximize performance-on-the-problem using lightweight out-of-band metrics collection (<<1% system usage) without compromising environment control.

Large organizations needing affordable productivity to manage business-important applications on Linux.
  • Control your infrastructure using a tightly-integrated suite of core system management tools -- including capabilities to discover, deploy, image & provision, monitor, virtualize, and remotely manage industry-standard servers. Integrate health & performance management in your IT infrastructure, and set thresholds for sending alerts to your enterprise management systems.
  • Scale deployment & provisioning with capabilities from bare metal discovery to firmware updates to performance provisioning modes -- with flexibility for scheduling and customization.
  • Manage power to maximize resource utilization under environmental constraints, and grow your management technologies on the stable base of the HP Systems Insight Manager. Beyond basic capabilities like role-based access and reporting, HP integrates advanced technologies from HP’s experience with UNIX, Windows, and open source.
  • Stabilize on “Linux-Managed Reference Platforms” for Linux OS and Linux management in a simplified solution with high availability, virtualization, and a single point of support through HP global services.
