Enhanced Compaq Management Agents for Linux Installation

With the release of Compaq Management Agents for Linux version 5.40, the UCD SNMP RPMs (which contain Compaq Management Agents Extension and Compaq MIBs) are available on Compaq Management CD and on the Compaq.com Website.

This release of Compaq Management Agents 5.4 for Linux simplifies the installation of Management Agents for Linux. Users can install/upgrade the UCD SNMP from Compaq without rebuilding snmpd.

The Compaq Management Agents for Linux install script on Compaq Management CD and on the Compaq.com Website installs/upgrades UCD SNMP RPMs as well as Agents RPMs. The binary "snmpd" undergoes exhaustive Quality Assurance testing by Compaq.

Some of the benefits of the new Linux Management Agent install script include:

• Performs install/upgrade of UCD SNMP RPMs and Agents RPMs in one execution.
  
• Provides users an option to restart snmpd and Agents after successful
  install/upgrade.
  
• Eliminates the need to restart snmpd and agents separately and manually.
  
• Provides the user with full Management Agents/SNMP configuration during installation

Group Configuration of SNMP settings
Group Configuration enables system administrators to configure important management parameters across groups of Compaq ProLiant servers seamlessly. This saves time and reduces configuration inconsistencies caused by human error. Group Configuration is a Compaq Insight Manager 7 task feature that allows for a particular configuration (set of parameters) from a single device to be copied to one or more target devices. Selection of the target devices is done through the Query mechanism in Insight Manager 7.

Compaq Management Agents for Windows 2000 and Windows NT version 5.30 now support Group Configuration of SNMP settings and version control settings across groups of Compaq Proliant Servers. As a simple example for SNMP Settings, you may want to configure a group of Windows NT servers to have the same Contact Person information. The Group Configuration feature allows you to remotely configure the desired group of servers quickly and easily.

Enhanced Web-Based Management
Enhanced Security (SSL) - Compaq Web-based Management introduces enhanced security features that include support for Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). With these enhanced security capabilities, customers can rest assured that only authorized personnel have access to their systems. Compaq Management Agents version 5.30 now support SSL, the encryption of the channel through which management Information & data, security tokens, and user name/password are securely transferred between the managed device and management application. In addition, all security events such as local logon, Single Sign On, Secure Task Execution are recorded in Compaq Web based Management logs.

Secure Task Execution (STE) - Compaq Management Agents version 5.30 now support secure task execution (STE). STE provides management applications, such as Insight Manager 7, the mechanism to securely request execution of tasks (e.g. group configuration, software deployment, reboot, etc.) from a managed device

Single Sign-On - With version 5.30 of the Compaq Management Agents, Authenticated users will be able to browse to any managed device within Compaq Insight Manager 7 without re-authenticating to the managed device.

Allowable IP address setting - Compaq Management Agents release 5.30 enable IT administrators to set allowable IP addresses, IP ranges, or system names in combinations on a group of managed devices.

Enhanced Integrated Management Log - The Integrated Management Log (IML) status has been refined to better reflect the overall status of the server. The events that can now change the overall status of a server, as seen in Compaq Insight Manager 7 and Compaq Web Based System Management, are Memory errors, Accelerator errors, CPU errors, Host bus errors, EISA bus errors, PCI bus errors, Expansion slot events, Power subsystem events, Automatic server recovery events, Operating system events, and Unrecoverable system errors. This change was made to eliminate redundancies in status reporting

Compaq Management Agents for Linux ( SuSE 7.0, and SuSE 7.2 Professional) - Compaq Management Agents for Linux provide the instrumentation that enables fault, performance, and configuration management. The current version of Compaq Management Agents for Linux (Version 5.2) supports Red Hat 7.0, 7.10, SuSE 7.0, and SuSE 7.2 Professional. COMPAQ MANAGEMENT AGENTS 5.2

Survey Utility for Linux Compaq Survey Utility for Linux is an online information-gathering Agent that runs on Compaq ProLiant servers. It gathers critical hardware and software information from various sources and saves it to a text file. This utility was designed to facilitate the resolution of problems without taking the server off-line, thus maximizing server availability.

Unit Identification System (UID) With Compaq Management Agents 5.00, the server's UID status can be viewed and activated/deactivated through Compaq Insight Manager XE, Compaq Insight Manager, and the Web Agents. The UID switch illuminates a blue LED on both the front and rear of the server when activated, assisting with quick server identification in highly populated racks.

NOTE: You must have the latest ROMPaq for the Compaq ProLiant DL360 or Compaq ProLiant DL320 installed for full functionality

Identify Drive - Added Identify Drive capability where the LEDs on physical drives attached to a Drive Array or Fibre Channel controller can be blinked for a specified length of time.
