Use HP Qualified Server Memory server memory options to improve the performance of your ProLiant servers and data centers.
Infrastructure matters. It's the foundation for all the information and applications of your business. You trust ProLiant quality for its reliability and performance to keep your infrastructure running. Server memory is one of the most critical components; even the slightest defect can result in downtime that could shut down your business. Choose HP Qualified Server Memory for the same quality, integration, reliability and confidence that come with ProLiant.
HP Qualified Server Memory is an HP Qualified Option, which means every genuine HP DIMM has been through our rigorous qualification process that extends beyond standard industry practice. HP Qualified Server Memory is performance tested and tuned on HP ProLiant servers to ensure compatibility, performance, and reliability.
Find the compatible HP DDR2 and DDR3 memory upgrades and options for your ProLiant server with the HP Memory Finder.
DDR3
- With the new generation AMD Opteron 6200-series, Intel Xeon 5600 and 7500-series based ProLiant Servers, the next generation of DDR memory comes to life with DDR3. In addition to the many G6 and G7 improvements, DDR3 memory provides many enhancements over DDR2 memory.
- New DDR3-1600 4GB and 8GB support for the BL465c G7 and BL685c G7 Servers using AMD Opteron 6200-series processors
- DDR3 16GB dual rank PC3L-10600R-9 provides up to 67% faster performance and 70% less power than DDR3 16GB quad rank PC3-8500R-7 memory
- DDR3 32GB quad rank PC3L-8500R-7 enables greater maximum memory footprints:
- 2-socket Intel 5600 series ProLiant and BladeSystem support up to 384GB
- 2-socket AMD Opteron 6100 and 6200 series support up to 512GB
- 4-socket Intel E7 family supports up to 2TB
- 4-socket AMD Opteron 6100-series and 6200-series support up to 1TB
- Low voltage DDR3 memory provides up to 70% reduction in the memory power footprint over DDR2 when using low voltage memory (from DDR2 at 1.8V to 1.5V and now 1.35V with DDR3). Low voltage memory is qualified on Intel Xeon processors 5600 series and AMD Opteron 6100 and 6200-series processors.
- Flexibility to choose DIMM type
- Registered RDIMMs
- Unbuffered UDIMMs
- HP ProLiant DDR3 Memory Configuration Tool
DDR3 performance
- System performance will vary depending on several factors (Server model, CPU capability, DIMM type and number of DIMM’s populated) and result in the following typical bandwidth speeds:
- Single-rank and Dual-rank RDIMM
- 1 DIMM Per Channel @ 1333MHz
- 2 DPC @ 1333MHz (1.5V), 2DPC @ 1066MHz (1.35V)
- 3 DPC @ 800MHz
- Quad-rank RDIMM
- 1 DPC @ 1066MHz
- 2 DPC @ 800MHz
- 3 DPC not supported
- Single and Dual-rank UDIMM
- 1 DPC @ 1333MHz
- 2 DPC @ 1333MHz
- 3 DPC not supported
DDR3 DIMM comparison
- Registered DIMMs offer higher capacities, memory register support, address error detection
- Unbuffered DIMMs offer smaller capacities, generally lower price points, basic ECC
- If uncertain, go with RDIMMs for more flexibility
