The ProLiant server family from HP is the worldwide market share leader in industry-standard servers and delivers outstanding performance, availability, ease of management, and solutions integration. By adopting a market leader in each category, we believe we can offer superior products, solutions, and services by building upon and improving these market leaders with minimal disruption to our customers. A recommended transition path exists for each HP NetServer product, which will be available immediately for planning transitions.

Additional plans and resources are also available to simplify the migration process as customers choose new HP technologies.

Interoperability technical guides

Deployment and Change Management Transition Guide: This PDF document explains the differences in deployment and change management tools between NetServer and ProLiant, and describes the possible integration points with the customer's current environment. Since Navigator will go away with NetServers, and the customer MUST start using SmartStart and its relatives when they start buying ProLiants.

Operational Management Interoperability Guide: This PDF document provides the customer with the details surrounding use of TopTools for managing ProLiants, use of Insight Manager 7 for managing NetServers, as well as detailed instructions on transitioning between TopTools and Insight Manager 7. It also covers integration of both NetServers and ProLiants with enterprise management platforms.

Remote Management Interoperability Guide: This PDF document provides the customer with the details regarding the HP Remote Management Assistant card in an Insight Manager 7 managed environment, the Remote Insight Lights Out Edition card in a TopTools managed environment, as well as the use of a RILOE in a NetServer (currently unsupported, but documented).

Guide to interoperability of hp hardware and hardware management tools: hp Toptools 5.6 with ProLiant servers and Insight Manager 7 with hp Netserver systems: This paper is written primarily for HP customers who have deployed HP NetServer systems and are using HP Toptools to manage distributed networks.

Support

All support plans for the transition process begin with maintaining consistency throughout the total customer experience. With dedicated attention to our customer's business success, we are focusing the bulk of our resources initially to ensure the rapid and simple integration of ProLiant technologies and partner applications within our customer's existing environment while maintaining close and open business relationships, services and support. Customer investments will be protected in the following ways:
  • HP will support NetServer products through their standard warranty and support terms.
  • Add-ons, upgrades, peripherals and options were be available for 3 months after October 31, 2002 for HP NetServer platforms
  • There are clearly defined transition paths for NetServer platforms to comparable HP ProLiant platforms
  • Tools, resources and migration services are available to help ensure ProLiant compatibility with your existing management, storage, rack and power infrastructures
  • Support for currently qualified operating system revisions will continue throughout the support life of the products. In addition, Microsoft Windows Server 2003 will be qualified and supported on the tc3100, tc4100, tc2110, and tc2100. (Windows Server 2003 support will not be available on other NetServer platforms)
  • Operating maintenance releases such as Microsoft Service Packs will continue to be qualified on NetServer products throughout the warranty period. For a complete overview of supported Operating Systems and qualified maintenance releases refer to the HP tc Servers and Netservers - Current Network Operating System Support matrix.
  • The most recently tested and qualified revisions of TopTools and Navigator will continue to be supported throughout the support life of the products.
We will continue to support NetServers with existing NetRAID, Disk Storage Systems, Rack Storage Systems, memory, processor and network options pursuant to existing warranty and support policies. There are no plans to qualify and support Smart Array internal or external storage on NetServers platforms due to the rapid transition of those platforms.

Relationships with partners across all of the NetServer business will continue, as opportunities exist.
