Today Compaq is announcing a new ProLiant 2500 model available in both a tower and rack design.
The new Compaq ProLiant 2500 6/200 512K Model 1 delivers superior price:performance for even the most CPU intensive multi-processing environments. This hot plug model was designed for customers requiring a business critical server capable of supporting medium to large-sized database applications and incorporates the recently released Integrated Management Display for increased manageability. The new Compaq ProLiant 2500 6/200 512K Model 1 continues to deliver breakthrough performance, manageability and investment protection features typically found in higher-end server platforms.
The new Compaq ProLiant 2500R 6/200 512K Model 1 also provides customers with a large cache solution but in a rack form factor. This hot plug model has been designed specifically for customers utilizing Windows NT based applications. All large cache models come standard with 64 MB of ECC memory preinstalled along with the new Integrated Management Display.
Performance: The Compaq ProLiant 2500 6/200 512K models are engineered to deliver outstanding performance for both processor-intensive applications and file/print sharing environments. These models support up to two Pentium Pro 200-MHz processors, each using 512K of integrated Level-2 cache running at 200 MHz. Additionally, all ProLiant 2500 models ship standard with 64 MB and can support up to 1GB of ECC memory using buffered EDO DIMMs.
Superior performance is not just a measure of processor speed. Disk and network performance are also critical to the overall performance of a server. The Compaq ProLiant 6/200 512K models include the latest generation SCSI controller as well as 100 Mb/s NIC support as standard features. The Integrated Wide-Ultra SCSI controller delivers 40MB/s data throughput, effectively doubling the Fast-Wide SCSI-2 transfer rates. Compaq ProLiant 2500 models deliver standard, an integrated 10/100 TX Ethernet controller capable of autosensing both 10 Mb/s and 100 Mb/s.
Investment Protection: The Compaq ProLiant 2500 6/200 512K models are designed using the current ProLiant 2500 highly-serviceable server chassis. Features like pluggable processor boards and tool-less I/O board installation will help shorten the time and cost to perform server upgrades and maintenance. In addition to improved serviceability, the Compaq ProLiant 2500 6/200 512K Model 1 chassis is also flexible, allowing customers to easily rack mount any ProLiant 2500 tower (and convert from a rack-mount installation to a tower if necessary).
Manageability: The Compaq ProLiant 2500 6/200 512K models are designed with manageability in mind. Building on the success of the Full-Spectrum Fault Management available with all Compaq servers, the Compaq ProLiant 2500 6/200 512K models include as standard features, the Integrated Remote Console, Integrated Management Display, and an extended Pre-Failure Warranty Program.
