Answers

General
Q1. What is DVD-ROM?
A1. DVD-ROM is the next generation of optical disc storage technology. It's a bigger, faster CD that can hold video as well as audio and computer data. The DVD-ROM is intended to encompass computers and business information with a single digital format.

Q2. What is the difference between DVD-Video and DVD-ROM?
A2. DVD-Video holds video programs and is played in a DVD player attached to a television. DVD-ROM holds computer data and is read by a DVD-ROM drive attached to a computer.

Q3. How quickly will DVD become established?
A3. 29 million DVD-ROM drives shipped in 2000 with over 2 million bundled DVD-ROM titles.

Q4. Can the DVD-ROM record from VCR/TV or other DVD-ROM?
A4. No, the minimum requirement for reproducing audio and video on DVD is an MPEG video stream and a PCM audio track. HP is not supporting or qualifying this type of operation. This product is intended for data retrieval.

Q5. What is a dual-layer disc?
A5. A dual-layer disc has two layers of data, instead of one, meaning it can hold up to twice as much data.

Q6. Is CD-ROM compatible with DVD-ROM?
A6. Yes, all DVD-ROM drives will read CD-ROMs. Software distributed on a CD-ROM will read fine in a DVD-ROM system, however, DVD-ROMs are not readable by CD-ROM drives.

Q7. Can I play DVD movies or games using this DVD-ROM drive?
A7. No, because HP Servers do not include the appropriate hardware or software for this type of operation.

Q8. Why can't I play movies copied to my hard drive?
A8. The majority of movies sold on DVD today are encrypted with CSS copy protection. Decryption keys are stored in a inaccessible area of the disc. If you copy the contents of an encrypted DVD to a hard drive, the keys are not copied.
