Answers

Q1. Does Custom Builder support user defined devices?
A1. The database of Custom Builder contains up-to-date product information about HP products. To ensure an accurate rack configuration, the user should enter ALL of the following information when defining a new device:
  • Product Name
  • Part Number
  • Height in U (1.75")
  • Weight in Pounds
  • Heat output in BTUs
  • Current in Amps for low and high voltages
  • Power usage in Watts for low and high voltages
  • Leakage Current In mAmps for low and high voltages
Q2. What is the difference between the "help me build... let me build" modes?
A2. Help Me Build a Solution is for users who would like help in selecting and sizing racks and rackmount components. This Mode directs you through HP's Enterprise Configurator using a simplified user interface. This interface includes an interview session to help select appropriate racks and rackmount components and provides default racking instructions. Also, Custom Builder automatically performs the calculations necessary to properly size power components in accordance with functional and regulatory requirements.

Let me build a New Solution Myself is for more experienced users who are familiar with the HP product line and with applicable functional and regulatory requirements. This mode does not perform any of the calculations necessary for automatically selecting and/or sizing rack components.
Q3. What kind of information will I receive from a Custom Builder session?
A3. Each configuration is based on default manufacturing rules, and prices are shown as suggested list prices. Upon completion of your configuration, you can send it to the HP Call Center by utilizing the "telephone" icon located at the top of configuration summary page. Your HP Call Center Representative will verify your configuration and pricing information prior to purchase.
Q4. What's the difference between Custom Builder and Rack Builder Online?
A4. The user interfaces for Custom Builder and Rack Builder Online are very similar; however, Customer Builder has additional functionality that does not exist in Rack Builder today. Such as: ability to configure internal components in servers, component pricing, direct link to HP Call Center Representatives for assistance, and capture customer intent for each item on your configuration. There is some Rack Builder Online functionality that is not included in Custom Builder, such as: end of life product information or ability to edit configurations (will be available in Phase II).
Q5. Can I transfer my Rack Builder Online configurations to Custom Builder?
A5. Due to the enhanced services provided by Custom Builder, it is not possible transfer your existing Rack Builder configurations into Custom Builder. Rack Builder Online is available until February 29, 2004. So get ready for Custom Builder now - print or save your configurations. If you have questions about migrating from Rack Builder Online to Custom Builder please send an email to rackbuilder@hp.com.
