Answers

Q1. What are the benefits of using HP StorageWorks Replication Solutions Manager Software (RSM) with HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA Software ?
A1. HP Replication Solutions Manager Software integrates both local and remote replication into a brilliantly simple to use graphical user interface (GUI) and command line user interface (CLUI). RSM Software removes almost all of the complexity of configuring and managing replication environments through easy to use wizards and automation of common tasks. In addition, RSM Software now includes an Interactive Replication Topology Viewer that provides a customizable picture while providing the flexibility of executing tasks directly from the displayed objects.
Q2. Can I now deploy HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA Software on a general purpose Windows server?
A2. Yes, with Continuous Access EVA Software, you now have choice on how you want to deploy EVA software applications. For example, you can deploy the software on a dedicated general purpose Windows server in the SAN. See the Continuous Access Software QuickSpecs for specific Widows OS versions that are supported.
Q3. What HP StorageWorks EVA arrays does HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA Software support?
A3. Continuous Access EVA Software supports the complete HP StorageWorks EVA product line. Replication Solutions Manager Software is included in the Continuous Access EVA Software Media kit and will also support all other models of the EVA array family.
Q4. Can one transfer a HP Continuous Access EVA Software license between EVAs?
A4. No, the license rules have not been changed and licenses are non-transferable. Each license purchased is specifically for that model and array. Upgrade options are available when upgrading a licensed array to a new model.
Q5. Over what distance can I replicate my data using HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA Software?
A5. HP Continuous Access EVA Software supports many configurations and distances. Since there are many factors which affect the solutions such as Recovery Point Objective (RPO)/Recovery Time Objective (RTO), bandwidth and data volume, please consult with your sales professional to evaluate the solution.
Q6. My customer is asking for one-to-many relationships using HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA. When can we expect to see this solution be available?
A6. Continuous Access EVA Software currently supports multiple relationships and fan-in or fan-out is supported between mixed arrays. Any single array can have up to two relationships with any other array. One to many relationships is planned for a subsequent release.
Q7. Does HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA Software support asynchronous replication?
A7. Continuous Access EVA Software fully supports both synchronous and asynchronous replication technologies. Since there are many factors that influence asynchronous performance, some implementations may require a pre-assessment to verify that customer expectations can be met. With the Enhanced Asynchronous, buffer-to-disk the amount of supported configurations has greatly increased.
Q8. If I upgrade from an HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Arrays to a later model, do I have to buy a new Continuous Access EVA Software license?
A8. Yes, in addition to the changes required at the controller level, you need to purchase the appropriate upgrade license for HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA Software licenses based on the amount of data being replicated. Upgrades can only be done with either a data-in-place array upgrade or when the original array is being decommissioned.
Q9. Can I replicate between different EVA models using Continuous Access EVA Software?
A9. Yes, Continuous Access EVA Software can replicate data between the EVA4400/6400/8400, EVA 4100/6100/8100. A Continuous Access Software license (LTU) for the proper capacity must be installed on each system. Enhanced asynchronous replication is supported between EVA 4100/6100/8100 series models. One way data migration is supported from EVA 3000/5000 to EVA4400/6400/8400.
