Overview

HP StorageWorks Storage Mirroring Software provides host-based replication and failover for enterprise and midrange customers seeking a flexible, cost effective protection strategy. Patented replication and failover technology continuously captures byte-level data changes as they occur in your production environment and replicates those changes to one or more servers in any location without geographic limitations. By replicating only the bytes that change, Storage Mirroring Software uses the absolute minimum bandwidth required to replicate customer data. This software does not need special hardware to run and utilizes existing LAN or WAN infrastructure that already exists in their environment –saving time, additional investment, and maintenance.

What's new

  • Support for Microsoft's Hyper-V virtualization product. Customer will now have the ability to replicate and failover in Hyper-V environments.
  • Support of Red Hat Linux version 4.5.

Features & Benefits

Flexible design with simple protection and recovery
  • Offers three levels of simple recovery: The key to business continuity is recovery. Storage Mirroring has been engineered to offer recovery of applications, servers, and storage with the same easy-to-use GUI interface.
  • Performs real time asynchronous replication: Storage Mirroring Software captures data changes as they occur and ensures that the data is in the proper sequence as it arrives at the target server.
  • Protects Exchange, SQL and SharePoint applications: For customers with limited Exchange, SQL or SharePoint knowledge or limited time, Storage Mirroring Software has an Application Manager that provides an automated, four button wizard to configure and test Exchange, SQL and SharePoint failover. Enables accurate disaster recovery for each application.
  • Provides an alternative way to centralize backup: Storage Mirroring Software can eliminate the "backup window" by replicating data from several production servers to a single centralized server. This centralization enables tape backup to occur from the replication server instead of pulling data sets across the LAN or WAN.
  • Supports many servers, OSs and storage platforms: Storage Mirroring Software is designed to be flexible, easy to learn, and support many different customer platforms. Customers can intuitively learn how to use the software and be able to apply that knowledge to support any DAS, NAS, and SAN storage and many operating system platforms.
Optimized to work in a customer's existing environment
  • Transports byte-level changes across the network: Storage Mirroring compares data and transports only the data that has changed. Sending "bytes" across a network reduces the impact on the network and eliminates the need for dedicated bandwidth.
  • Optimizes the LAN/WAN with data compression: Engineered to reduce network consumption, Storage Mirroring Software gives customers various options to throttle bandwidth and compress data minimizing the impact on their existing LAN/WAN bandwidth.
  • Supports generations of Windows platforms: Customers can learn one software program to support different versions of Windows Operating System are deployed - Windows 2000, Windows 2003 R2, Windows on Itanium for example.
  • Support for VMware and Microsoft Virtual Server: Replicate and recover in the guest operating systems or replicate and recover the entire guest OS - the operating system, the applications, and the data.
  • Configure different server recovery scenarios: Flexible setup of different failover scenarios based on resources and importance - one-to-one server failover, one-to-many server failover, many-to-one server failover, and physical to virtual, virtual to physical or any combination of physical and virtual.
Storage Mirroring is now organized to give you different product choices based on function
  • Storage Mirroring as a high availability product: Storage Mirroring can protect your Windows environment by providing replication and failover of servers, storage, applications and data. This product set gives you the most complete availability solution for your environment.
  • Server Image Copy as a replication only product: Server Image Copy is a non-disruptive replication only product that makes an exact copy of a server. Replacing or upgrading servers is made simple with an automatic re-image to another server even if that server is newer or virtualized.
  • Data Migration as an upgrade tool: Data Migration is a low cost tool to move data from an older server or storage device to a new server or storage device. The migration is intelligent and non-disruptive. The destination server can be physical or virtual giving you flexibility when changes are needed in your environment.
