| Q1. |
How is HP StorageWorks Storage Mirroring Software licensed? |
| A1. |
Because Storage Mirroring Software is host-based, a license is required for each server involved in the replication process. Licensing must include the target server (receives replication data) as well as the source (production) server. The only exceptions are the Storage Mirroring for Virtual Infrastructure and Storage Mirroring Data Migration. They require the production server to be licensed only.

| Q2. |
The Storage Mirroring Application Manager now supports Exchange 2007 as well as Exchange 2000/2003, SQL 2005, and simple file setup. Does this cost extra?
|
| A2. |
No. The 4 button setup wizard called the Storage Mirroring Application Manager is a separate download that requires Storage Mirroring to be loaded but there is no additional charge. Pay for Storage Mirroring and you can receive the Application Manager

| Q3. |
Why are there three versions of HP StorageWorks Storage Mirroring Software? |
| A3. |
Storage Mirroring Software supports three Windows OS versions: Storage Server, Server and Enterprise Server. There are also licenses for Itanium Windows, 64 bit Windows and Virtual Machines. There is also support for Red Hat Linux.
It is critical that you match the Microsoft Server Edition with the proper Storage Mirroring Edition. For example, if you have a Windows Server Standard Edition, you would purchase a Storage Mirroring Server Edition. If you have Windows Storage Server on a NAS array, you would need Storage Mirroring NAS edition. |
 |
| Q4. |
Are there any restrictions on the data migration product? |
| A4. |
Yes. The Data Migration product is slightly different than the Storage Mirroring products. First, the license is node-locked. This means you cannot use the product on multiple servers. There is an additional licensing step needed to node-lock the license. Second, the product has a 90 day expiration. After 90 days, you would need to purchase an additional license. Also, the Data Migration product does NOT require licenses on both servers - You only license the original server saving costs on multiple licenses. The destination server does NOT require a license. |

| Q6. |
HP now has three virtualization licenses. What are the differences? |
| A6. |
VMware and Microsoft allow for multiple instances of the operating system to function on a single physical server.
Storage Mirroring Software for Virtual Machines runs in the guest OS and supports both the VMware and Microsoft versions. Replication and failover will be performed between virtual and/or physical instances of the will run on up to five Virtual Machines using this SKU.
Storage Mirroring Software for Virtual Infrastructure runs at the disk level on the VMware ESX Virtual Infrastructure. The replication and failover work with VMware's snapshot technology to compare data and send data changes to a second server were those changes are merged with existing data.
Storage Mirroring Software for Hyper-V replicates and fails over Microsoft virtualized environments over any distance. For example, you can replicate and failover virtual machines to different Hyper-V hosts in different locations. One set of virtual machines can be replicated to and failover to a Hyper-V host in one city while another set of virtual machines can be replicated to and failover to a Hyper-V host in an entirely different city.

| Q7. |
Does the HP StorageWorks Storage Mirroring Software support the All-in-One systems?
|
| A7. |
Yes, there is a special SKU for the AiO Storage Systems products. Some of the AiO Storage Systems will have Storage Mirroring embedded in its management application for easy deployment. |
 |
| Q8. |
What are the differences between Storage Mirroring Server Recovery Option and Storage Mirroring Full Server Failover feature?
|
| A8. |
First, both pieces of software enhance the recovery of servers. Server Recovery Option (SRO) will be an optional software that must have Storage Mirroring installed. Full Server Failover comes with every copy of Storage Mirroring - it is a new feature for the base software.
The Server Recovery Option that works with Storage Mirroring that collects all of the appropriate boot files, drivers, security patches, Service Pack information, and operating system files on your source server. This information is replicated to a separate centralized server. SRO helps reduce the time needed to "build" a like-server at the centralized site. Full Server Failover sets up a 1:1 server to server ratio where all data, boot files, OS files, patches, drivers are replicated and a server failover can occur within seconds. |

| Q9. |
What is Server Image Copy?
|
| A9. |
Server Image Copy is a replication only sku that copies all the server data to another server and any other location. The data captured includes the operating system, drivers, patches, hot fixes, applications, and data.
Let’s say you have a critical application that was placed on a server 5 years ago. You want to upgrade the hardware to something newer but the server configuration was undocumented and the technician that built the server has left the company. How do you upgrade it? Server Image Copy could be loaded on that old server and the entire server’s content would be copied, non-disruptively, to another server with Server Image Copy. Upon completion, the server could be replaced by the second server or the data could be copied to a brand new server.

|
| A10. |

| Q11. |
How does eSD work? |
| A11. |
Electronic Software Delivery (eSD) provides delivery of software without physical license key or media shipments. Upon ordering an HP software product, an email is sent to you and/or your HP-certified reseller with instructions to get the license keys and download links.
|
 |
| Q11. |
Will physically-delivered software still be available? |
| A11. |
Yes. Some customers, channel partners, and distributors may have unique needs and circumstances which can only be satisfied by physical delivery of their software. HP has no plans currently to eliminate physically-delivered software offerings in favor of their electronically-delivered equivalents.
