The solution leverages Fibre Channel fabric switches and offers customers an HP SAN solution, with primary and secondary storage on the same Fibre Channel domain.

EBS for high-performance SANs in heterogeneous environments allows multiple HP-UX, Windows NT/2000, Tru64 UNIX, NetWare, IBM AIX, Linux, and/or Sun Solaris servers, attached to a Fibre Channel switch, to share a SCSI LTO Ultrium, SDLT, DLT or AIT Library. In addition to this device-sharing feature, servers maintain the ability to transfer data directly to the attached tape devices and will therefore, continue to experience the high data transfer rates needed to keep tape drives streaming during backup or restore, a key to maximum performance.
