Overview

As mid-range and enterprise businesses grow, so does the amount of information required to manage, share, and protect. Rapid growth may increase the cost of operations and spread critical business data and resources across multiple systems and applications. The HP StorageWorks EVA iSCSI Connectivity Option extends the FC SAN investment with integrated multi-protocol support, allowing customers to incorporate iSCSI servers without requiring additional storage arrays or management costs. The EVA iSCSI Connectivity Option offers simultaneous iSCSI and Fibre Channel support, providing modular multi-protocol SAN designs with increased scalability, stability and ROI on storage infrastructure. Fibre Channel SANs based on EVA technology are able to leverage IP networks and extend SAN advantages into smaller departments and remote locations, where budget constraints would not allow for a FC SAN. This enables storage consolidation by creating larger SANs extending over longer distances providing access to storage that can be scaled/re-allocated when needed.

The EVA iSCSI Connectivity Option also allows an EVA to be a dedicated iSCSI array. This allows customers to migrate from Direct Attach Storage (DAS) to an IP SAN by leveraging the existing IP infrastructure without requiring any investment in FC connectivity. If customers choose to implement a FC SAN Solution in the future, their entire investment is protected. The only cost required is a Fibre Channel switch and HBAs, as no additional storage array or management software is required.

What's New

  • iSCSI Connectivity Option for HP StorageWorks 4400 Enterprise Virtual Array
  • Provides even lower cost iSCSI connectivity with 16 initiator licenses in the base product and 32 initiator upgrade licenses.

Features and Benefits

  • Increased Consolidation: The EVA iSCSI Connectivity Option extends the advantages of Fibre Channel SANs to smaller departments and remote locations, for Enterprise and Mid-Range customers who cannot justify the higher price/performance associated with FC.
It enables the EVA to support access via FC and iSCSI simultaneously
  • Cost Effective Solution: The EVA iSCSI Connectivity Option provides a solution allowing servers to attach to EVA FC SANs using freely available iSCSI initiators and leveraging existing Ethernet networks to deliver SAN-like benefits, and to attach servers to an EVA FC SAN for about $100/server.
  • Seamless environment: The EVA iSCSI Connectivity Option provides for storage consolidation around an EVA by simplifying management and backup. Both iSCSI and FC can be managed with Command View software. Extends EVA FC SAN solutions with integrated multi-protocol support, and the iSCSI device can be mounted in the rack with EVA.
