Overview

Microsoft® iSCSI Software Target is powerful and easy-to-use software that adds iSCSI target functionality to HP Storage Server (NAS) devices designed for small and medium business environments. The combination creates an iSCSI Storage Server solution that is capable of hosting file, print, and application storage (block) services on a single platform. Unlike environments with separate file, print, email, and database servers, or environments using proprietary technologies, this approach delivers single-platform manageability, easy scalability, and centralized backup. It provides investment protection by enabling low-cost storage consolidation using industry-standard hardware and software on existing Ethernet infrastructure.

The iSCSI Storage Server solution is ideal for small and medium environments that wish to take advantage of the simplification of storage consolidation and are application-focused on Microsoft® Exchange and Microsoft® SQL. It is easy-to-use and affordable, yet delivers powerful functionality usually reserved for higher-priced and more complex storage architectures.

What's new

  • New iSCSI software based on Microsoft’s iSCSI Target Application Pack
  • Microsoft MMC-based management
  • Leverages Windows Storage Server 2003 Release 2 Operating System features for Snapshots, Backup and Clustering
  • Single License to Use (LTU) version of Microsoft iSCSI Software Target works with either the Standard or Enterprise Edition of the WSS2003 R2 OS

Features and Benefits

  • Single storage platform to manage, scale, and protect: Microsoft iSCSI Software Target software adds iSCSI target capability to HP ProLiant Storage Servers (NAS), creating platforms with combined storage services (file, print, and block) and enabling migration from multiple direct-attached storage devices to a consolidated storage model.

  • Uses existing Ethernet infrastructure: Protects and enhances existing technology investments. Ethernet is well understood, widely available, and significantly less costly to deploy than Fibre Channel.

  • Supported on Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 based HP NAS products: Qualified and licensed for installation on HP ProLiant Storage Server and HP StorageWorks NAS products running Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 Release 2 Standard and Enterprise Editions.

  • Radically simple application storage for Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and Exchange 2003: Microsoft iSCSI Software Target simplifies hosting, monitoring, and managing Microsoft SQL Server 2000 databases and Exchange 2003 storage on HP NAS.

  • Single view of management for File Sharing and iSCSI Storage: MMC-based User Interface and iSCSI management snap-in simplify allocating and monitoring storage for File Shares and iSCSI Volumes.

  • Advanced iSCSI Enhancement Support: Microsoft iSCSI Software Target leverages WSS2003 R2 features iSCSI Snapshots, iSCSI Clustering, and iSCSI replication.

  • Multiple iSCSI initiator support: Microsoft iSCSI Software Target is qualified to work with Microsoft, Linux, BSD, AIX and Solaris.

  • Microsoft “Designed for Windows” Logo Certified: Certified by Microsoft Windows Hardware Qualification Lab (WHQL) to be fully compliant and compatible with Microsoft supported servers and client systems.
