What's new
Q1. What's the difference between the ProLiant DL380 Packaged Cluster with MSA1000 versus the ProLiant DL380 Packaged Cluster with MSA500?
A1. Both packaged clusters leverage industry standard components, best in class for server and storage. The configuration fixture contains all cluster components. The performance is greatly improved with the Intel 3.6 Ghz processors. There are integrated hot-plug modular smart array controllers when upgraded to the redundant configuration. 14 shared drives standard with battery-backed cache, 256 MBs, up to 512 MBs, Pre-failure warranty, and redundant components throughout the cluster.

The MSA500, based on SCSI technology, has a capacity of 4 TB.

The MSA1000, based on Fibre Technology, has the scalability to increase capacity to 12 TB based on adding 2 additional MSA30 storage arrays. The MSA1000 also includes FC2214 HBA's and an embedded 2/8 SAN switch fully integrated in the cluster. The DL380 3.6 Ghz servers come standard with 1 GB memory, same as MSA500G2. The MSA1000 uses Secure Path for redundant path clustering and the MSA500G2 uses multi-path with the 4-port module.

Q2. How does the ProLiant DL380 "simplify" clustering?
A2. The ProLiant DL380 is packaged and tested to make ordering, installation, operation and maintenance easy. Through a combination of clustering and redundant components, the system is designed to allow the system to continue to run, without intervention, despite a hardware or software failure. Cluster Monitoring software allows the operation of the ProLiant DL380 to be monitored, locally or remotely, to determine if a failure has occurred or to determine if a latent failure is in danger of occurring. The objective is to keep business applications running with a minimum requirement for local technical support.
