Overview

The HP StorageWorks 9000 Virtual Library System is a multi-node solution that offers industry-leading performance and easily scales in performance and capacity up to 4800 MB/sec and up 1280 TB of useable storage with 2:1 hardware compression. For fast data protection and backup in complex SAN environments, the VLS9000 now supports the licensing of Accelerated deduplication which retains up to 50 times more data readily available on disk. Accelerated deduplication delivers fast backup performance since the deduplication process does not impact the backup. The VLS9000 seamlessly integrates into existing backup applications and processes. It is a self-managed, auto configured and monitored performance-tuned appliance that is installed through a simple interface. Offering a highly available solution, it provides reliable data protection using RAID 6 technology with a high level of hardware-integrated data availability features.

What's new

• The VLS9000 supports the licensing of Accelerated deduplication.
• The VLS9000 supports 1 TB disk drives providing a 33% capacity increase in the same footprint.
• The VLS9000 supports twice the number of storage arrays. Previously an 8 node system could only support 8 arrays. This is now increased to a total of 16 arrays (2 arrays per node).
• The VLS9000 will support LTO-4 tape emulation (without encryption) in September 2008.
• Capacity for the VLS9000 has increased to 1280 TB with the combination of 1 TB disk drives and the ability to support 16 arrays per system.
• The VLS9000 supports up to 10,000 slots and 32,000 cartridges (only when using the VLS firmware version 3.0 required for Accelerated deduplication).

• Easy operation - The VLS9000 is deployed, managed and operated just like a tape library minimizing disruptions to your environment. Emulations include the HP StorageWorks ESL and MSL series tape libraries as well as HP StorageWorks 1/8 G2 tape autoloaders and all HP Ultrium Tape Drives and DLT7000, DLT8000 and SDLT 320 tape formats.
• Automigration - The HP Virtual Library Systems support Automigration which allows VLS to move data to a physical library or another VLS. Smart copy will be further enhanced when HP delivers low-bandwidth replication.
• Accelerated deduplication - The VLS9000 now supports capacity licensing for Accelerated deduplication. The data deduplication capacity LTU will be licensed by array, four licenses per array or per capacity modules (i.e. VLS9000 30 TB or 40 TB Capacity Module) are required. Accelerated deduplication delivers fast backup and restore performance.
