Course overview
The Advanced SAN Architecture course is designed to help understand the tasks that a SAN Architect must undertake to develop a SAN Architecture Solution. These tasks include the steps necessary to architect, plan, design, and implement large complex SAN infrastructures using the HP StorageWorks SAN Design Guide and HP supported SAN product and services offerings.
Topics include:
SAN planning, design, and security
Migrating SAN topologies
Merging and scaling SANs
SAN extensions technologies
The impact of Backup, recovery, and replication on SAN architecture
SAN management models and products
Case study and SAN examples
Prerequisites (suggested, not required)
Designing and Implementing SAN Solutions (course 18958)
Audience
PreSales Technical Storage specialist
Course objective
At the end of this course, students should be able to:
Define SAN Architecture and the role of a SAN Architect.
Define the factors surrounding SAN Architecture and identify HP SAN Architecture Services.
Discuss the basic storage security model and access points and describe approaches to planning security in a SAN.
Identify HP heterogenous SAN zoning rules and the impacts of zoning on HP SAN security.
Describe HP standard SAN topologies and SAN topology design rules.
Describe the Core and Edge architecture.
Describe how Trunking and Oversubscription can impact SAN design.
Identify levels of high availability in SAN architecture.
Describe SAN fabric scaling considerations and procedures and explain how to scale and migrate specific SAN topologies.
Explain how to merge SAN fabrics and describe SAN scaling, migration, and merging best practices.
Describe SAN core PID addressing.
Explain the need for SAN extension, describe the HP supported long distance products and compare and contrast HP supported SAN extension technologies.
Define best practices associated with each supported SAN extension technology.
Define best practices for cluster extensions.
Define performance best practices for integrating a disaster recovery and continuous access solution.
Define the HP Open SAN Management strategy and describe advanced SAN management concepts.
