Course overview

This course is designed for students who have the required certifications, equivalent knowledge and experience. It is directed toward both a sales and a non-sales audience.

This course provides in-depth training on key systems technologies, HP technology differentiators in Intel X86- and AMD-based servers, integration of different operating systems, and systems management for a small and medium business (SMB) environment. Discussion topics include HP server architecture, industry technologies, and high-availability technologies. Hands-on activities include configuring subsystems, setting up drive array fault tolerance, using advanced utilities, and enabling web-based management of ProLiant servers.

Prerequisites (suggested, not required)

  1. One of the following OS certifications:
    • Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) certification
    • Red Hat Certified Technician (RHCT) certification
    • SAIR Linux Certified Administrator (LCA) certification
    • Certified Novell Administrator (CNA) certification

  • Conduct a needs analysis and site survey

  • Install and configure the server hardware and options
  • Use HP SmartStart or manual path to install supported operating system
  • Discuss tape backup technologies
  • Describe the six-step HP Troubleshooting Methodology
  • Identify and resolve common performance issues
  • Discuss fault tolerance and redundant technologies
  • Discuss HP rack and power products
  • Describe HP StorageWorks products and value
  • Implement direct attached storage (DAS).
  • Use the six-step HP Troubleshooting Methodology
  • Identify and resolve common performance issues
  • Install and use Lights-Out remote management

Cancellation policy

Registration may be canceled without tuition charge if Hewlett-Packard Training Registration receives notification of cancellation eleven business days prior to class. Cancellations made ten to three business days prior to class will incur a $150 cancellation charge. Cancellations made two business days prior or less to class date and/or no-shows will incur the full tuition charge.

All course offerings are dependent on classroom, equipment and instructor availability. Hewlett-Packard reserves the right to cancel or change a class at any time without liability to the attendee for costs incurred due to such cancellations or changes, including, but not limited to, cancellation penalties for transportation or accommodations.
