BCSG New England Celebration
Compaq Takes Center Stage
BCSG New England Celebration
More
than 1,500 people in Nashua, New Hampshire, and Marlboro, Massachusetts,
turned out on June 6 to celebrate "Circles of Your Mind" Tour 2000,
a high-energy multimedia presentation celebrating the accomplishments
of Compaq's Business Critical Server Group. Heavy rains pounded
the large tents at both sites but did not dampen the spirits of
the presenters. Compaq Vice President and General Manager Bill Heil
led an upbeat meeting that recognized the many accomplishments of
Compaq in New England.
New Englanders enjoyed seeing video greetings from their colleagues on what industry analyst Terry Shannon called " the left coast." In presentations at both sites, Shannon was "bullish" on Compaq, predicting that the company would move to the top spot in the industry and that stock value would increase dramatically, largely because of the introduction of the new AlphaServer GS Series systems.
Also on the agenda were Unilever CEO Dr. Martin Armitage and Stephen Hegge of Parexcel, a Boston biotech company. Both speakers told how Compaq servers played a key role in improving their operations.
New Hampshire Governor, Jeanne Shaheen, who attended the Nashua event, praised Compaq for taking a leadership role in that state, not only in technology and manufacturing, but also in community service.
Compaq Takes Center Stage
More than 2,200 women business leaders from all over the globe learned about Compaq in New England at the Simmons Women's Leadership Conference at Boston's World Trade Center on May 6.
Yvonne Jackson, Compaq's senior vice president, Human Resources, Organization and Environment, led an impressive array of speakers, which included "Today" show host Katie Couric, Queen Noor of Jordan, and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Frank McCourt, "Angela's Ashes."
Jackson said supporting programs that bring women together is "just good business." She cited Compaq's "Women at Work" initiative, saying such organizations are important to ensure that women have opportunities for leadership. She talked about the critical role women can play in corporate leadership, especially in the technology arena. "Women in this industry have both technical know-how and emotional intelligence," she said.
A large overhead banner proclaiming, "Compaq Women On the Move in New England," attracted attendees to Compaq's spacious display area. Between sessions and workshops on a wide range of leadership topics, hundreds of women lined up to complete a Compaq sponsored survey, to visit Compaq's Human Resources recruitment booth, and to try out Compaq iPAQ products.
Compaq's support was widely acknowledged throughout the daylong event, not only from the podium, but also through huge, multi-screen logo displays and extensive signage throughout the World Trade Center. More than 150 women from Compaq attended the event.
