» Australian Marathoners Drop By Middle School

The middle school received a little visit from down under yesterday when four members of the Australians¹ Boston Marathon running team stopped by. The day, dubbed “Aussie Day” was sponsored by Hewlett-Packard, a corporate sponsor for the race. All the Australian runners work at Hewlett-Packard. The runners adopted the Marlborough Middle School as part of the community outreach project.
» Van pooling promoted: Savings Touted for Long Commutes

Each weekday morning, several Western Massachusetts residents get in a van and drive 70 minutes to work in Marlborough. The 11 Hewlett-Packard employees are among the few people employed in MetroWest who take a "van pool" to work, according to Melissa Zampitella, New England manager for VPSI Inc., which supplies the H-P employees with their van out of a Woburn office.

Marlborough Middle School has been awarded a $35,000 technology grant from Hewlett-Packard, beating out hundreds of other schools for new computers, digital cameras, professional development and online mentoring from field experts.

The Democratic National Committee and HP began discussions
last spring regarding the use of wireless technology at the Democratic
National Convention in Boston July 26-29. The committee decided
on off-the-shelf HP hardware and Cisco Systems networking technology
combined with more customized software from Microsoft.

High-tech, wireless mobile laptop computers are being installed
in new patrol cars starting this year, said Margaret Sullivan,
manager of information technology for the state police. Sullivan
said Hewlett-Packard is the primary contractor on the project,
and has teamed up with Itronix, Public Safety Group and L and
E Mobile Computers and Mounts to complete the project.

to outfit patrol cars with PCs that can access a secure statewide
