Compaq and WBZ Create Dynamic Media Partnership
Compaq Will Be a Front-Runner in Boston Marathon

Compaq and WBZ Create Dynamic Media Partnership

Compaq and WBZ-TV 4 in Boston have formed a three-pronged partnership designed to promote awareness of Compaq in New England. Compaq will kick off the partnership on April 17, sponsoring TV coverage of the world-famous Boston Marathon. More than 20,000 top runners from around the globe are expected to participate, including at least 25 from Compaq in New England. More than 1 million spectators are expected to line the 26-mile race route.

For those who watch the marathon from home, the Compaq logo will be highly visible. Compaq is sponsoring the "leader board," the on-screen box on WBZ that lists the top three competitors throughout the race.

Beginning in April, Compaq will be featured in WBZ's Innovation Series, 65 television and radio spots focusing on Compaq's role as a leader in technology and community service here in New England. And starting in late June, Compaq and WBZ will cosponsor Free Friday Flicks, family movie nights held every summer weekend at the Esplanade in Boston on the Charles River.

Compaq Will Be a Front-Runner in the Boston Marathon

When the runners hit the streets April 17 for the 104th annual Boston Marathon, Compaq will be playing a key role. Not only will there be at least 25 runners in the pack of 20,000 runners, there will also be Compaq folks manning water stations and working as security guards, along with ham radio operators assisting with emergency services. Visit this Web site in two weeks to meet the people who will be running and those who will be working behind the scenes, helping to make this huge event run smoothly.

Compaq has loaned the marathon organizers an AlphaServer™ 8400 system to power the Marathon Web site, as well as the equipment used to read the small computer chips attached to each runner's shoes to record their time (notebooks, desktops, Intel servers, and printers). Overall, Compaq in New England is playing an important role in one of the world's premier sporting events.
